Diachronic and Synchronic Approaches in Linguistics, Diachronic and Synchronic Linguistics, Saussure

The terminological distinction between synchronic and diachronic approaches in Linguistics was first made by Swiss linguist, Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913) in his Course in General Linguistics (published posthumously in 1916).

Welcome. Thanks for your feedback. Both diachronic and synchronic approaches are equally important. However, synchronic approach has an advantage over diachronic in the sense that synchronic approach to linguistics looks at language comprehensively from every perspective in detail during a specific period. It’s more focused and more descriptive. Diachronic approach looks at language only historically.
