I love how Lee balances kidding around while at the same time being absolutely kind and respectful to his peers. This guy really has it figured out on that. Has to be one of the nicest people in the industry!

You got that right! Nothing like being in a studio with a bunch of people, and there's that one premadonna, or jerk who ruins it for everyone. Music is all bout emotion and you want to be in a fitting emotional state , and since I'm sure Lee isn't tracking some Nazi Hard core shit, he's right to help set a more suitable atmosphere. Working with him must be great. I'd give him the middle finger as often as he wants! (

He certainly knows how to show us around while not lingering where people are working, as I'm sure he doesn't want people lurking while he's laying down a track. Cruise in, state why you're there and get out. If only every radio station manager I've ever worked for had learned that lesson.

So here we go again! Another reason why Lee's channel is the BEST! Not only do we get to hear many diverse artists that Lee has had the privilege of working with, we get to see behind the scenes of some of the place where this wonderful music was created and meet some of the people involved. I NEVER get to see this stuff and THANK YOU LEE for this experience!!!!

This is so freaking awesome. Thanks so much Lee, I’ve been watching your channel for well over a year just happening coming into my feed and for whatever reason Sunset Sound has been dribbling in. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this great video, and being able to finally Have a visual along with all the other footage that has been made available up until now. The owner and his dad made a point of not taking a lot of photographs during all those years of recording and now you’ve given us to insight to some of the visual things talked about, for example, the infamous basketball court were prince, spent so much time in between sessions, and just a general sense for the orderliness and professionalism of the studio studios along with the camaraderie it isn’t by accident that sunset sound is still an existence today because of the positivity that exist there. No wonder so many great artists chose to work at Sunset Sound over the years.

Wow, that place is such a time warp. I'll bet they've had that same candy machine since the 70s. It's a real contrast to a place like EastWest/Western/Ocean Way, where they did a fancy designer makeover of the common areas, while keeping the main rooms unchanged acoustically.

@luvbasses5487 2 жыл бұрын
@@orion681 help me out: what’s variac? I heard that Zeppelin recorded Rock and Roll there in early ‘71...back when Robert could reach the hot white flash vocal notes! Also, Gimme Shelter was done there with Merry on vocals. They called her at 2am and yet while pregnant, she came down and just nailed her part! “Raaaape Murderrrr it’s just a shot away...just a SHOT away!” That’s a song I’ll never ever get tired of man.... just killer!

Thanks Lee for taking us back through memory lane. It was 1975 or so when I met you, Joe and Dean Parks. I was just 18 or 19, a tech at Hollywood Sound Recorders. Some nights I’d have to run 16 or 24 track 2” tapes from studio to studio for all you great guys to overdub your parts on. Looking back to it all, I feel so honored to be able to have witnessed the business with all the great musicians such as yourself, the Neve & SSL consoles, the Ampex, Stephens and 3M multi tracks, the razor blades and splicing tape, the pin ball and pool tables, Martoni’s, Houston’s BBQ, and yes, that smell of Mylar in the morning! ‘Those were the days my friend. I thought they’d never end’. Thanks for sharing this Lee.

even as a kid jamming with friends i was always amazed at how everyone came to the table with good vibes and happiness to see one another. its cool to see how that kind of dynamic is almost identical with professionals who've been doing it for decades and decades, and it never changes. There's something about the intimacy of playing w/ others that just makes your interactions more like family than co-workers, and there's nothing else like it.
