it is very good to see the recordings in a musical studio from the 80s and 90s, the people who started to produce now this is more than a class is a gift, the musicals and productions from the 80s and 90s were the best.

Wow! Having the opportunity to see one of the early recordings in action. I appreciate this! My rather 'tangential' review of the Sound City movie is supported by this video. You can emphasize the console and room all you want, but in a brief study of those 'B' side songs.... the songwriting is first priority.

Four years and a half later, probably with the studio looking exactly the same, Nirvana recorded Nevermind. What a pity there's no footage and just a couple of pics from the 1991 sessions.

1986 was the beginning of a drought for Sound City. It was almost shutting its doors when Nirvana recorded "Nevermind" in 1991, kicking the studio not only back into life but make it a household name again with several albums produced per year. But major credits for that also have to go to Butch Vig, because damn he made the studio sound good - Sound City probably never sounded better than on "Nevermind".

6:33 please note the tissue paper over the tweeter of the NS10. The original NS10's were too bright, scientific papers were published about which brand of tissue paper gave you the flattest frequency response! I kid ye not!

That "scientific paper"... it was an April Fool's joke from a recording industry trade mag - Recording Engineer/Producer, as I recall!

haha I was about to post a comment about it. And it was shown that the tissue paper caused comb filtering issue, corrupting the sound. These exact same speakers were used for a recording session for Nirvana Nevermind album in early 90's, there is a youtube video showing these speakers and the tissue is removed.

Well, there are those like myself - that at least play the Instruments 😂 but yeah. You can do it all at home now with the right apps and plugins and Instruments plus knowledge and understanding

Ohhh a studio 2 with another Neve and an a80.. now it makes some sense why Butch Vig wonders if maybe nevermind was on an a80 in his Beato interview. By the way, that is some killer footage of Marc Rocco. I looked him up, sadly he died way too young. He didn’t want to be filmed but he looked incredibly cool there.
