This was actually a bit of deja vu. 2 years earlier, Brodeur and the Devils were in the same situation, with a 3-2 series lead and leading 2-1 late in Game 6. They win, they face Hasek and the Sabres in the second round. Jagr scored the tying goal with under 3 minutes left, and then won it in OT, and the Pens went on to win Game 7.
