Before the internet existed people used night-time to commit crimes. Lets ban nightfall so we can be safe, since nightfall makes us all anonymous. We've always had this problem. Crime cannot be solved by oppressing people and denying their right to freedom of speech. Anonymity is essential to freedom of speech. That's why we let people stand in a booth when they go to vote, to make sure that social pressure and fear of persecution doesn't influence their ability to express their right to democracy. People see this as a given when it comes to voting but sadly not as much when it comes to the internet.

Democracy is a beautiful idealistic dream, but a complete mess in reality. Spend 10 minutes with your average voter, ask about big issues, and see how many outright deceptions they took to be the truth, or can't really explain at all. Democracy only works if the people actually take the time to get informed, learn the truth of an issue, and vote not by party lines, not by bullshit, but for policies. Which simply doesn't happen. America's democracy is so atrocious we literally vote for the lesser of two evils, we accept they're both bad, and that are "politicians" are all liars. Yet, we vote for these fuckers. We actively participate in electing people that are bad people to office. When we see adds about a certain candidate more often then not, it's a hit piece by the opposing candidate. We vote for the one with the best insults towards the other. We wonder why we're losing more and more liberties, we wonder why we can't get shit done. This is why. Because we, the people, chose to participate and vote on candidates that should never be elected because we feel we MUST vote for someone. If we all just refused to vote for any candidate that runs by smearing, any candidate that does bullshit politician speech to say absolutely nothing, if we refuse to vote for those that will lie to us, abuse their elected power, I think we might be moving in the right direction. But until then, I stand of the opinion that democracy will never work in any way that's not a train wreck at best. and downright holocaust bad at worst. Otto Von Bismark was right to protest against democracy, and support a monarchy, at least then it's not in the hands of joe buba that can't read to decide if we should sign away freedoms.

I'd love to see a follow-up video explaining how these Dark web operations such as Silk Road or Playpen were located and shut down without investigators being able to track the connections the way you would with the Internet. EDIT: According to Wikipedia, the silkroad guy was caught because one of the usernames he used in the early days of the silk road site, matched a username on an unrelated website where the poster asked for programming help and included their email address, which contained his first+last name. Presumably, "interest in programming" + "shared username" was enough to get him on a suspect list, and investigation carried out on him is what yielded the link.
