I just tried this recipe. Awesome! A few lessons I learned: 1. Don’t let the crust cool before pouring the filling. Otherwise the filling will sink to the bottom. 2. Don’t overbake the crust. This can lead to dry, less dense crust so then the crust will float.

Hi John from GERMANY. OMG now I realize what happened to my lemon bars! I baked the shortbread and it was a bit brown on the edges like in the video. However I set it aside for a bit, cause it was piping hot and thought it needs to cool more and stuck it in the fridge for a few minutes. Finished the lemon filling, poured it on top and baked it. It was too late at night to eat it and so stuck the finished product in the fridge and this morning took it out. SURPRISE, the layers changed their position..the shortbread was on top and the yummy filling on the bottom. Lesson learned. Add lemon mix while shortbread is still hot. 😂😮

I made these lemon bars. They are amazing. I wanted to share a hiccup I had. I cooked according to recipe and all the set times during the refrigerator set time I realized they weren’t going to set. I left them in the refrigerator got up the next morning took them out to bring to room temperature tented the sides with foil preheat my oven to directions temp and in they went for another bake, they are in the cooling process and are going to be delicious! Just wanted to share incase it happens to anyone else. This is my forever recipe! 👏🏻🙂 Thank you

Just made this recipe today - he's not lying when he says they're like drops of sunshine in bar form. my quarantine grocery delivery gave me four pounds of lemons instead of the four i requested. i have a million directions i could go in. i grated the peel and froze it and squeezed and froze the juice in ice cube trays from most of the lemons. i have some i still haven't decided what to do with. i may just do these lemon bars. thanks.

I love lemon, but I never was a fan of these, now I know why. This is a great recipe, simple, well done. and really delicious. I followed this too. I now realize that the other ones I had snubbed were not real lemons, but a pie filling and the crust was soggy. These however are perfect: lemony, sweet, and the crust is perfectly softly crunchy. I just made these. They turned out amazing. I just mixed the zest in a plastic bag with the sugar. Perfect ratio of sweet and tart. Crust has perfect crunch. I was only able to wait 1 1/2 hours of frig time haha. I read they should be stored in the fridge for up to a week.

I went and got all the iingredients and had fun making this awesome treat. I selected you because you explain and educate as you go along. Plus this is far easier and less complicated that French Lemon Tart. It's in the oven and tonmorrow I will be sharing them with my neighbours cos I am single. I used to make these bars years ago, and somehow lost the recipe. I've been looking for it ever since. The only differences were that I added about 1 tsp of vanilla to the crust, and I spread a lemon frosting on top (powdered sugar and melted butter). Amazing taste!!! Thank you! :)

Hello John! I recently came across your channel and I LOVE it! I am not a home cook nor have a wide repertoire but your recipes and instructions are nice and easy to follow, plus your personality is infectious. I made your lemon bars last night and they were delicious! I don't have your cutting skills so they were not pretty or even but my neighbor was thankfully unconcerned. I did use almond flour for the crust and curd - my neighbor requires gluten-free. Per suggestion I added an additional 1/4 cup per cup of flour. The crust was nice and crispy and though the curd wasn't a sunshiney yellow, powdered sugar hid that very well. Yumola! Thank you so much! Hope to make the MIllionaire Shortbread next. Please let the person who “corrected” you on your usage of the word scale that this is the 21st century. Unless you are using an old set of scales with two sides-one to hold a weight and the other to hold the item(s) being weighed-the correct term for what you are using is “scale”, in the singular.

I just made this and I''ve just started baking since December. It turned out perfect, crusty buttery melt in your mouth. Lemon filling perfectly lemon, tart but not too much so 1 cup fresh squeezed as the recipe dictate. Iused all the sugar and the powdered sugar on top and it's perfect. No problems like all the other commetns about the filling sinking and the curst floating and I'mlike a total newbie so just follow the directions and you should be fine.

It's citrus season here so I made these for a party and they were delish! My husband loves them. I usually don't like lemon bars because the ones I've had always either taste metallic or eggy. Not the case with these! I love lemon anything, so I'm happy to find this perfect recipe. One thing I've noted on the recipe for next time, is to make them the day to be eaten. I made them the day before the party, so the shortbread crust got a little soft from the moisture of the lemon curd. Didn't affect the flavor of course, just the shortbread texture.

Mine came out with Crust on top and filling on bottom and it was gooey. Followed recipe to a T.

I made these for st patricks day and added a little green food coloring! Huge hit- preppy kitchen is my go to for all desserts. I made about a thousand spritz cookies last xmas, and I made my boyfriends mom the Key Lime Pie a couple weeks ago which she looooved. You're earning me major brownie points! (pun intended)

Just made this - I thought it would be a total disaster but it is by far THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER TASTED! If you love lemon delicacies, you should definitely try this one! (Note: I used a round tray slightly smaller than John's, so I had to bake for 35 instead of 25 minutes)

Absolutely delicious! Family found it too sweet, so I used 1 1/2 sugar instead of 3 cups and was perfect.

I have a ton of lemon juice frozen from lemons I picked off my lemon tree ... had more than I could possibly use and that was AFTER giving bunches away to half a dozen neighbors (filled a 5 gallon bucket in one day- it was a good year!). Oh the glorious lemon ! When I was little, Mom would give us each a quarter. We would walk down to the local grocery.. to buy a treat. My brother and sister would buy candy ( of course... what else would a kid do with a quarter ) Not me, I would buy a couple of lemons .. bring them home .. slice them up. Then it was me, my lemons and a shaker of salt. THIS was my TREAT ! Lemon-aholic .. ? yes .. ! To this day lemon flavor rules ! I SO want to make these !!

Two weeks late, but yes, a glass conditioner should be fine, and you can use a blender instead of a food processor

I made these with limes and it turned out great! Delicious, but very sweet. I cut them much smaller, more like one inch cubes of sunshine :) Might reduce the sugar next time, but I wonder if they will still set.

Did you ever try cutting the sugar down? I made them the other day and I do like them. I added lime juice as well which was nice. Want to make sure how much sugar I can get and get away with T_T
