With the whole "I found out my friends are more of the savory type", I would associate it with how sometimes when you finally find a way to become one with yourself and find deeper meaning in what your anxiety is and where it stems from... Sometimes your friends just dont wanna hear it. You could be the happiest you've ever been in your life, finally find the freaking answer to how you feel and you friends would rather just.... "Dissociate" from you... Because you hang out with lemon boy now instead of constantly agruing and fighting him away. Its not that you become him... But you do smell to much like a sour lemon... Even if you've become sweet as a pie after finding the answer. Edit: Sorry if none of this made sense.

I have anxiety, and that explains it. I’ve lost a quite of bit of friends when I first got diagnosed with anxiety for the first few years. The Moomin cartoon is based on the books by swedish-finnish author Tove Jansson. The Moomin books got me into reading when I was younger and I'm glad that such amazing artists as Cavetown reference them

I thought Lemon Boy was about a boy falling in love with another boy (lemon boy) and not really being accepted by his friends. His friends leaving him gave him a lot of anxiety and depression, but he had Lemon boy by his side to be there for him and love him. Lemon Boy teaches his new friend how to be more open and accept himself. By the end of the song he finally accepts himself and finally gets to live a happier life with Lemon boy!! ............. at least that’s how I interpreted it!! Lmaoo

I got that interpretation as well. Probably, most likely because I started dating my boyfriend around the same time and he can be a bit depressing at times. He had kind of a bad upbringing, but at heart he's one of the sweetest and most genuine people I've ever met. So I think this song resonated with me for that reason. Haters gone hate as they say, but as long as you're happy that's all that really matters. I can read the friend interpretation as well, and we started out as friends so that's probably why too 😅

I think it’s cool how Robin incorporates Snufkin and Little My, because it seems almost like a literal representation of two people that are getting along together. Snufkin is very go with the flow and does his own thing by his own rules. Little My is stubborn, fierce, and opinionated. They complement each other, but they also have to figure out how to get along, and they do! Idk, it seems just really cool!

ok before i saw the video, this is my interpretation: so, lemon boy is like the negative/ depressed voice in your head. You tried to get rid of it but eventually you stopped trying. this voice is toxic and "bitter" . but you decided to listen because you thought you were helping yourself. it's how I feel honestly . edit: i actually think I was pretty close haha

You mentioned sort of attempting to figure out the savory part. Today while translating this song into sign language I realized that savory can also mean wholesome. So it essentially translates to ‘I found out my friends prefer wholesome people, they weren’t too keen on dealing with my bitter anxiety.’

my absolute FAVORITE song by cavetown is one called "rocket ships" and it would be awesome if you talked about it. it's an earlier song of robin's, but even then he has always been a very clever lyricist. it makes me happy cry every time i listen to it because it fills me with an emotion that i can't quite articulate.

"I'll cut my hair", cutting hair is used as symbolism for putting your past behind you and moving on, and "I'll hide my chest and I'll figure out away to get us out of here" could be referring to hiding his heart because it's weak, and trying to move on from an emotional state.

Actually, Moomin was originally a series of Finnish comic strips and novels. The adaptation to TV first aired in Japan, and was produced by a Dutch/Finnish/Japanese production company. Great video by the way, I absolutely love Cavetown's music!

Lemon boy is my favorite. I like how it shows a story and paints a picture but its in a quote-y way. And in a metaphorical way that you can interpret in different ways. I saw an animatic where Lemon Boy was an imaginary friend. It could also be interpreted in a loved one that left you. I love songs with lyrics that can be interpreted differently. Its not just saying it straight out, so its not as open, and so people who don't relate to the subject won't understand.

Today I went into the school’s counseling room because I had a bad day at school yesterday with anxiety and came home crying, and she asked me questions and when she asked my favorite bands or music I said cavetown. She looked it up and we listened to lemon boy. When I got home, I looked at my emails and saw an email from her with the title, “it’s okay to have a citrus friend” and this video attached. I watched it and was SHOCKED to find out that it’s about anxiety, and EVERYTHING ABOUT IT I COULD RELATE TO!! Especially the part about not knowing who you would be without anxiety. And then I opened KZbin for the first time and what did I see? LEMON BOY PERFORMED LIVE!! This song (and this video) have changed my whole view on anxiety and my struggles. THANK YOU!

This is such an interesting take on the topic because the whole time I'm comparing this to Intro III by NF and how he tries to bury his fear/anxiety in the back of his mind but ultimately it isnt a good coping mechanism for him because he is still distressed and it still comes back. But Cavetown accepts this feeling, this negativity as part of himself and has somewhat made peace with it, which seems to be a much healthier and positive coping mechanism.

I always thought that this song talked about having a friend who you didn't really like at first but then grew very close to. And then you choosing that person over everyone else but then realising that that person is very high maintenance and drains you emotionally.
