"previous owner" cut the camshaft. this strikes fear into the heart of any mechanic
@willspicer3190 Жыл бұрын
I had a Geo metro with a 3 cylinder theater a local mechanic and crazy man built as a project. I had his help in maintenance but still it was crazy lol. It had almost 7 lbs cut off the crank (and many more mods) that when I needed to put another clutch in it we had to tear down the whole engine and take the crank to the machine shop to have it balanced with it smh. I almost got another crank and had it cut the same as mine so I wouldn't have time do this again when the clutch went out next time lol. But ya the head was hand ported intake and exhaust side as big as it could and so was the throttle body. An Allen wrench was cut and welded in to hold the injector in the center of the TB because all the mounting for it originally was gone. There was as much shaved off the head and block as could be and not let the engine interfere lol. Compression was a little higher to say the least, it ran happier on 93 atleast. But it had enough power that you could run it around speed limit and not stress it, I was getting 55+ mpg. If you run it wide open bouncing off the Rev limiter in ever gear it would still get 40-45 mpg at the least lmao. Fun times for sure

Sadly, it had a little oops with the Volvo at Road Atlanta -- ping-pong ball vs 2 tons of steel, that went as one would expect. I don't know if they're going to try to fix it, or build something else. (it has won the trifecta of a+b+c+IOE Maybe it's time for an EV conversion.) [correction: that was the new-to-us volvo. Hong Norrth smashed us Real Good(tm) at the end of that race. So hard the tie rods had to be cut out.)

Join the forum and find a team that needs an extra driver to meet the minimum number of drivers for a valid entry. You'll need to pay your driver registration fee and contribute towards fuel, tyres, spares etc but you'll learn a lot and might meet the right Lemons-heads to form a steady team.

What are all those switches and buttons on the console of some cars?
@GMour534 жыл бұрын
hazard lights switches, oil pump switches, coolant pump switches, ignition, start, master power...... every electrical thing gets its own switch, fuse/breaker, and *hopefully* coloured wiring. It helps with diagnosing problems

What happens if you bring a car but you just couldn't get the total cost down under $500 to save your life, do you basically take a ton of penalty laps as long as it's not an obviously cheaty car?
@magicoddeffect4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and/or you bribe the judges. Remember that safety equipment is all exempt: tires/brakes/rollcage/fire suppression/seat, and some other stuff. Also the judges often issue no penalty laps for stuff that's completely cosmetic and has no performance benefit, but is silly or ridiculous or awesome.

Did you not choose a car where there is great demand for the high-spec interior or entertainment system that is surplus to requirements in a Lemons car? Don't worry about winning, worry about finishing.
@Mustardmartin4 жыл бұрын
No says one thing about winning he asked about the rules for cost, please do tell how many you have finished i am curious?
@fredygump55784 жыл бұрын
You can enter any car. If it is too expensive, you might end with negative laps. There is no, "YOu Can't racE beCuz too Cheaty"...they just make it impossible for you to win anything with your cheaty car. They have had entries awarded 1 million penalty laps...if I remember correctly.

I have a 93 accord fetish if you would which has lead to the purchase of several two of wich for extra cheap not 250$ (which is the most i have paid out of the 5 i have owned) haha one for 200 and another for 130 and a shit load of parts my thinking was take a drive train and suspension from one and put it in the rear and have a dual engine accord i have a mig and and shitty 3in one tig, stick, plasma cutter. Buttt I am a Loser with no friends or Facebook and there for no team, i just missed the Lemons Race closest to me as well guess that doesn't matter without a car and team haha but any how if anyone in the Eugene Oregon area wants to be apart of a horrible idea just as the one i have mentioned let me know i have a lot of parts acquired, i think.

If you build it, they will come... (after all, the building is the really hard part)
@EmyrDerfel4 жыл бұрын
So instead of one engine and drivetrain that could fail and ruin your day, you want a car with two engines and two drivetrains for double the chance of failure? It's gonna be easier to find people to team up with if you run an ordinary car and keep the second for parts. Your team mates won't come back for another race if they pay their entry fee to drive a car that fails during Friday practice then spends the rest of the weekend being fixed, or spends all weekend being fixed but failing within a few laps. Have some good times and finish the race so you turn your first-time-teammates into friends, then agree what kind of monstrosity you can build together.
@Mustardmartin4 жыл бұрын
@@EmyrDerfel ya thats very true and your right the build in my head did not start with Lemons in mind it started because i wanted to make an AWD accord and the easiest way for me to do that is with the parts i have a engine is usually no more then 300 dollars but they are accords so the are generally pretty reliable and will run until there is no compression i do agree with you my second point is that how fun would it be to have a plain jane easygoing car the point is to bring a lemon kinda sorta haha and it just so happens i can get whole cars for under 300 dollars so parts are not so much of a problem and like i.was saying it w snt a lemons build first it just so happened that the build could fit into the rules being i got so many parts cheap so it could work but is by no means efficient. Its two honda big blocks with only one cam and no v tech not too much to worry about really. In my opinion. I do agree though :) i just think it sounds fun my idea of fun is not normal though probably hence no friends.
@EmyrDerfel4 жыл бұрын
@@Mustardmartin Finishing a Lemons race is hard enough, and finishing well with a stock non-performance car will get you more experience and kudos than having a Rube Goldberg car that spends all weekend in the pits. Learn to walk before trying to juggle at the same time.
@Mustardmartin4 жыл бұрын
@@EmyrDerfel dude i said i agree you are right now tell me how much experience you have i am not trying to build a car for a lemons race rather a car that just so happens to be able to run in lemons and i get what you are saying again but its not about winning experience yes but in the pits or on the track its all an experience. Im not sure where you get the idea that there will be so many problems? You are complaining that its too complex but actually its not really its just one more of everything but none of it will be needed to keep the car alive if one engine goes you now have another and spare parts and it doesnt matter which one it is front or back the car will be able to drive in just rear or front wheel drive when(not if cause your positive another engine is the problem) an engine blows, it will all be made with the parts off of the front of the donor car all of which are again cheap and plentiful im am not saying that its the perfect winning lemons strategy (im clearly not a winning lemons strategist like your self) but it could work in a lemons race once again not being the cars objective at all it just so happens i have that parts to do it in under the budget that's the one and only thing i have going for me as well as i can get more for just as cheap and the accord is a double wishbone geometry front end parts on all four how hard is that? Any how i get its two times everything so twice as much potential for problems but that will not matter if the second engine is redundant. Ya it would ve cool but not necessary to finish. To me this sounds fun pits or not finish or not its a lemons race not Lemans i think you got confused there. One more time i do agree it will be easier probably about any other way its just not the point to do it easier or even to be a lemons car it just could be.

The SVT Contour is KINDA cool... but that engine is a bit of a dog. Porsche sold it off to Ford when they realized that it was no good. Like... cool car, but why the hell didn't you choose a better engine? And don't get me started with the boutique cars that used that engine, IT'S NOT THAT GOOD. If someone wants to modify it to make a billion horsepower, good on them, but there's at least a dozen other engines that are better starting points. I can't fathom how this is a good choice even given limited funds.
@Thinginator5 күн бұрын
They didn't sell it because it was no good, they sold it because the car it was meant for was canceled. From what I've been told, it's a very stout engine with plenty of performance potential, and even the imperfections it does have are fixable. It's not a remotely bad engine, not the best but certainly not a "dog" as you say.
