I notice every single detail, the same posture she exit the memorial,the fido memory recording, she stunned after being called Major(she is a colonel now), the Cat nickname, the traintrack shot from wasteland, sunset alone, and end of track, and their hand at the end forming 86. If before i was crying, now my room is flooding.

Its been 1.5 years since they really last spoke to each other after they left the special recon mission and lost contact with Lena. Kinda surprised that Shiden (Cyclops) didnt tell Lena about the reaper symbol on the mech during the five months between episode 22 and 23 in the shows timeline. Shiden knew Shin too

I love this anime to bits. This season’s ending was beyond incredible; it wouldn’t be wrong to call it a perfect ending. The camera angles, the timing with the song, and the fact that they blend the past with the present. It’s all just so amazing. P.S. if you’re wondering why those train tracks look sort of familiar, it’s because the tracks are supposed to refer back to the train tracks that Lena was standing on at the end of season 1 when she visits District 86.

I actually found this show randomly and knew nothing about it. Im so glad I gave a chance. Its a great show and this scene was so well done. It doesnt try to blow you way with some over the top story or animation (story is very good and the animation is amazing) I like how its just solid when it comes to telling the story. It invests you in it and makes you want more. I hope they keep doing it right and take whatever time they need to do it. We will all catch up when we can.

Honestly, even wanting to see more, this is by far the best ending that we could have gotten, the soudtrack, the shots, the characters finally meeting each other without knowing, even their hands forming the '86'(2:30), everything is just PERFECT So many other shows missed the mark because there was more story that maybe would be adapted, but this didn't, this made a great 'closed' ending while still keeping room to continuation

there is so much detail to unpack in this scene. as lena makes her way towards shin, we get a half second scene from the previous episode. from fidos pov, we can see lena walking right to left upside down. the right to left motif is used throughout the show and in japanese literature , right to left is a sign of progression and moving forwards. this is made possible because fido was upside down in the previous episode. as fido sees shin and lenas meeting, a part under his lens glints representing the tears/emotions of the audience because at that point, we are all fido. as the rest of the squad struggles to keep their composure, theo stands out from the rest remaining poised and respectful, a complete 180 from part 1 where he was lena's biggest critic. the reunion also a callback to episode 11 where everyone of them left notes on the 6th handler poster. the railway that seemingly went on never ending throughout the seasons is symbolic of lena trying to catch up with shin and the others. as the rails finally reach the end, theyre all reunited at long last. in the ending card, you can see kurena has her foot between shin and lena because shes in denial of their connection xd. the song playing while they meet is called LiLaS, an acronym for "Lena is Looking at Shin". the song is not about the first time they meet but the first time they set eyes on each other. when you combine and mix their eye colours, you get the colour of the LILAC. also the song lyrics are very well timed with the sequence "Right now meeting under the sky", "You were smiling", "My heart started crying out", "My eyelids started overflowing". the lyrics are literally telling the story of what is happening as they meet. And finally their hands come together forming the number 86. As a first time leading director, Toshimasha Iisha did an incredible job. Man i really hope this gets a second season.

I hate too be downer. The last time I watched this show was in the beginning of my army career. Now I’m disabled and with the memory’s of my dead friends. Mindless blood shed, meaningless, for a cause that wasn’t true or just, I later learned to accept that living is how you cherish their memory and never let them die. You tell their story to the next person. We are all afraid of being forgotten but as veterans. As long as you’re alive tell the story to your kids who will tell their grandkids and so on. Then their sacrifice wouldn’t have been for nothing . This show captured the feeling of survivals guilt to the tooth.

im rewatching it again and i still cry. god 86 was really that good. the most awaited and touching reunion ever, their emotions were overflowing especially Shin and Lena. the eyes, smiles, and the blushes like they longed for each for so long aah love them so much 😭 the details when Shin protected Lena from Fido when it moves shows how he’ll protect Lena in the future from now on, the train tracks details shows that Lena finally caught up, and the 86 hand shadows too at the end, I’ll just think they held hands after 🫣 the way they’re looking at Lena’s small drawings too, they must’ve been so touched how there’s someone out there genuinely cares and waited for them 🥹 they’re one of my fav anime squads fr. they fought so hard huhu (even the song added to my emotions huhu) This truly one of my fav and unforgettable endings of all time. All throughout the show, Shin’s always carried the burden of his own existence, of Shinei Nouzen being the Reaper, an identity he never liked and it’s been really weighing on him since the beginning. What makes this scene so much better for me is that this is the first time we can clearly see him proudly say “Shinei Nouzen” without any of the weight he usually carried with it.

Animes are notorious for the reluctance on using 'show don't tell' of story-telling. I'm really glad that 86 managed to do it quite a lot, particularly on this scene. Shin and Lena gradually changed expressions really sold this reunion, doesn't need a single word uttered to describe how each of them feels. Lena's dam just broke the moment she realized who she's talking to, and Shin went almost bashful seeing Lena like that.

I’m late commenting but I actually watched this anime when it first came out, but, Eighty-Six is beyond incomparable. I know this might sound strange but I’m so serious when I say this scene and the anime has made me cry as well as whenever I see this particular scene and others, none of the other similar anime’s have made me feel anything anywhere close to this one. This anime holds a special place in my heart for sure.

I just recently watched as well and am severely disappointed that the next season hasn’t been announced. This ending is great but kinda bittersweet since I wanted the group to talk more since they finally met up. Hope it gets announced soon I’m hungry for more :(

Because (i) this is an absolutely perfect ending (ii) it can only go downhill from here and (iii) as it stands now, it's a full, self-contained 2-season anime that is amazing and unbelievable in almost all respects, up to the point of legendary status. And I don't want this to change.
