Arrgghhh the way he started this song and then at 0:39 did that little nod to the keyboard player so he knew to change chords... 4:02 you mean guitar?? and those aren't licks, those are the classic 9th chord RnB arpeggios on the guitar. There are no doubts that he could play the living hell out of a piano, he is very well trained in jazz piano, proof are in his instagram post where he make beats with amaing jazz harmony ( side notes: CHILL with those emojis, jesus christ )

It wasn't the guitar I was talking about...I can hear the bass notes at that part, but what I was talking about was on the keys, at least that's how it sounded to me. Side note: Please don't tell me how to type. I'm a very expressive person particularly when it comes to music, and I will use as many emojis as I feel at the time. I'd never sit here and tell anyone, let alone a complete STRANGER, how to type anything, because it's plain rude. If you want to school me on music, fine... I'm here for it because I love learning about music, but please don't try to tell me I need to change the way I express myself, because that is absolutely none of your concern.

​@@AyeshaShaSha usually when us musicians spend our time listening to live music like this, we hardly ever comment on the video or on the track, because we naturally analyze really deep in our mind and listen to the playing more than the singing. Proof? Here. The core reason why this song to you guys sounds really good is because of Charlie's amazing song writing and also because he uses lots of Minor and Major ii - v - i ( 2 - 5 - 1 ) chord progression, sometimes refers to "the meat and potato of Jazz", this type of chord progression is very useful when it comes to making the song feels like it has an ending or making the song feels like it keeps on moving ( here is a video that explained this a bit more deeper about the ii - v - i chord progression ), when applying the ii - v - i chord progression to put an ending, it makes the ending extreme smooth because of the strong tension of that ii chord follow by the v chord drags you in and its telling you that the song is about to come to an end in the smoothest way. You might be wondering: "Well if the ii - v - i only work as an ending then why you call it a chord progression?" WELL, the ii - v - i can absolutely be use as chord progression, you can loop it forever, why? well its because of the nice contrast between tension and release of the ii,v and the i in the progression ( thats why you often find this progression extremely popular in lofi ). "ok so you can use it as an ending to the song, a chord progression,... what else can you use it for?", glad you're still reading, you can use as a key changing tool, basically you can play the ii - v - i chord progression on different keys alternately without it sounding weird and unpleasant to you, or somethnig you can just put a v chord in front of the i chord of the key you're gonna change to if you don't wanna use the full ii - v. Anyways, there are many many many ways of using this progression but if you can, you can grab a guitar or a piano and learn the progression yourself. This is why some of us musicians hardly comment on youtube, its damn annoying to read all of this analysis, worst part is thats not even all of the analysis and that's just the chord progression alone. Also the 4:02 you were talking about, yeah that's still ain't the lick, the pianist played the Eb7aug5#9 then to a D7aug5#9 ( chromatic movement ) then back to Dbm9 ( the ii chord of Bmajor, also the first chord of the bridge section ), the bassist were playing along with the pianist on the melody ( G# - A# - B - C# - D# - C# ) then the bassist goes back to the bass notes ( Db slide up to the D#, then down an octive playing a chromatic D then back to Db ), Charlie was the only one who played the lick. ( side note: if we're talking personal preference then i think you're not that expensive when it comes to music, also its not that i dont like spamming emoji, its just that its a bit extra to me, sorry )

@@kenzicrafter see, I appreciate you going in depth about this because I find stuff like this interesting, even though I already know what a 2 5 1 is. I've been teaching myself piano recently so have been learning about chord progressions and the 2 5 1 is indeed extremely common and now that I know what it is I can hear it in A LOT of songs. It's one of my favourites and can easily listen to it on loop, especially going through different keys. 😍 I'm not the kind of person who can instantly call out the names of notes (I'm getting better at it but still not professional standard), but I can play by ear, so I can work it out pretty quickly, it's just not instantaneous. But thank you for laying the notes out because now if I want to have a go that will help me.👍🏾👍🏾 I just think you could have been kinder in your initial comment. Not everyone is a top class musician, and music affects people in different ways. I get very emotional with music and I'm also super repetitive with songs I like. Sometimes I'll repeat sections over and over, just because of the way it made me feel. I didn't say the pianist played THE lick... I just meant that I'd heard that movement before in RnB/Jazz and could feel that's where it would naturally go. 😊 It's funny to me though.. That you think a few emojis are extra yet you took the time to write aaaaalllll that to school someone on music theory. I think many people would find THAT more extra... But hey. Each to their own. 😏 All I'm saying is a little kindness goes a long way. You never know what your comments can do to someone's self esteem. As I said, thanks for the breakdown, it will come in handy for me when I get time to sit down and play next time. 👌🏾👌🏾
