As a person who would be disgusted by Fianna Fáil I would still be able to say that Brían Lenihen was a decent man and actually cared about the affairs of state and the Irish people. I wish his family as well as can be expected. Loss is terrible for all of us. He wrote plans that he knew would happen after he was gone. A very decent man and only Irish people will get the WHOLE significance of that iteration. A man of grace and courage is a great legacy.

Reflecting on the FF Dublin West days. We were all so proud of him here. He was a genuinely good man and he really cared about people.

RTE puts out an awful lot of shite - but their documentary department is always world class. This is another example of this quality.

Great man, doesn’t get enough credit for the quick economic recovery subsequent to his tenure. Showed immense integrity and courage. I’m sick and tired of the idiots on the left whining on and high time there was a major clearour from Dáil Éireann

Genuinely curious here. Why do you feel this way about Lenihan Junior? In my view, Brian Lenihan was the worst Finance Minister in the history of the Irish State. He created the horrendous bank bailout of 2008, which cost the Irish people a whopping 64.1 billion euro. 64.1 billion euros went down the drain, mainly to Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide,. He was in charge when Ireland lost our economic and fiscal sovereignty in 2010 as part of the EU/IMF bailout. In just three short years, he managed to utterly wreck Ireland's economy and public finances. What a horrible 'legacy' he has left.

I'm not trying to start an argument here. Just actually curious.

Honahan was the best at playing the media but did v little for the situation apart from come out with all great solutions and ideas usually a week or 2 after decisions made by cabinet . The bailout was an evolving situation, the EU were trying to force it in threatening Ireland with blame for Eu collapse . Whether honahan read it right on that occasion or not ,it was not his place to be announcing it . Perhaps if he did what he was supposed to do as a key player the country would not have been exposed to such risk .Him and regulator of course who claimed they didn't have the right staff to assess the risk / crash

Insulted Britain whilst asking for Britain's financial help after he'd collapsed his own country's economy. That's Ireland right there.

What insult? And Ireland never ask UK for help…..the British government offered help on the basis of shoring up uk banks operating in Ireland…..oh and how’s telling your biggest trading partners to fcuk off working out for you? 🙄

@@markmoran916funny how everyone especially in the UK don’t understand that this is what happened, they were saving their own interests and protecting their own institutions that invested here.
