this one you had me puzzled, but you satisfied me in your last few minutes of recap, I was wondering about you charging & getting it operational, then submitting estimate, but you had to make it work to keep customers happy, & then see what home office wants to handle either repair, or replace to fix unit and had authorization to get operational.
@FlyEaglesFly191115 жыл бұрын
First look.. wow how many hands have been on that unit.. look at it..you can clearly see all them oily mits all around. You can see someone else cleaned the inside out of the coil..too much pressure too. Wow..you always get the best of stuff. Thanks for sharing Chris. Be safe out there.

Have you ever consider using leak stop for a temporary fix? Sometimes due to season or other factors either the owner or the hvac company cant change the unit at the moment and what I do if they cant replace the unit right away i add leak stop and come back a month later as a follow up to make sure leak stop worked properly and add the few ounces I lost until leak stop cover those leaks or slow it down at least and that gives the costumer enough time to make a decision or time (as I said it's just a temporary fix maybe just to go through the season only and then change the unit and only works with micro leaks but it helps when you have several of them at the same coil of course if you have bigger leaks and can be braze then that would be the solution but sometimes that is not the case)

So it is entirely plausible that this repair bill was due to saving money on a cheap coil cleaning service. If they were too rushed or just didn't care they wouldn't do a good job of cleaning the coils. If the cleaning solution, even highly diluted, can corrode the coils at weak points like solder joints then not thoroughly rinsing the coils while cleaning them could have caused the coil solder leaks. It looks like an opening in the market to hire, maybe senior citizens(?), to come by in the wee hours of morning and clean the coils and take their time to do a good job. Clearly you get what you pay for. I also think any service that can offer a video record of them doing the work is invaluable. Keep up the great work.

Just a question. Why not use something like Dawn Dish Detergent instead of that nasty coil cleaner? It'd be cheaper and safer, because it's shouldn't attack the coils, just the dirt. Also a pretty good degreaser. A ton better for the environment as well, compared to coil cleaner, and safer for yourself incase you were to accidentally spill it all over yourself. You just get a good bath/shower instead of a trip to the hospital for chemical burns.

It doesn’t work good on what we find in the systems. We do use dawn soap when units are too close to exhausts
@davidmiller94853 жыл бұрын
think about the sudsing power of dawn (yes it's great on oils but...). Now consider just how much bullshit it would be to remove that from the fins. That's why you don't want to use dawn unless you have to.

you were liquid charging through low side is liquid charging a compressor can actually damage the compressor??
@squirtlehvac89625 жыл бұрын
Aslong as you flash it, it’s ok
@truthsmiles5 жыл бұрын
Not as dangerous as it seems... think about the “orifices” the liquid has to go through. First, the valve on the tank he’s opening by hand and the schrader valve on the access port (at a minimum). If he’s also using a manifold and low-loss fittings there may be even more. Combine that with adding just a little at a time as he’s doing and it’s very unlikely to get liquid in the compressor.

why not use dish washing detergent instead of Big Blue?
@maxeyac5 жыл бұрын
Im serious! Is Big Blue worth the additional expense vs detergent? Love your videos and respect your professionalism in all you do. Thanks!
@carlgill59465 жыл бұрын
Big blue is better than dish soap! One reason is big blue doesnt sud up and foam up, our areas we work in see alot of moisture and water so if you leave soap in a unit the customer is goimg to keep seeing soap bubbles and suds coming out of the drain etc.... Some units are used with food or around food so soap would be the proper thing to use. Big blue is biodegradable as well

We are allowed to top off the charge in the united states, we can leave a system leaking for as long as the customers likes if the total system charge is under 50 pounds... I hated Swiss cheese evaporator repairs. Seems when you repaired a leak in a u bend sometimes after the repair is done and passes leak test, a leak shows up at a later date in the field of the coil under the fins no matter how well you control torch heat since the tubing is so thinly extracted for heat transfer.

If you do the repair, you might want to add acid away to the system based on what may be corrosive leaks.
