Ruiz vs Holyfield is still one of the weirdest title-fights ever. I think there should be some rule that nobody that lost to the undisputed champion should be eligible to fight for one of his belts. Otherwise what even is the point of taking on title-challengers. AJ and Dubois fight each other, but they have both been proven to be unworthy of Usyks belt when they failed to take it from him.

Is the back thing from nostradame in charge of dazn or something? The price is outrageous now. It was very reasonably priced until Canceló sued them to punk out of his contract. Plus, commercials galore. Even in PPV events. Aren't PPVs supposed to be commercial-free? Or was that only the model for cable tv? I don't get commercials with my paid NetFlix accound. Nor do I get commercials with my paid Spotify account. KZbin offers commercial free videos with a paid premium account. Why does dazn have to be that way? No other streaming platform I'm aware of have commercials with their premium accounts. What stings the most with that IBF mandatory demand is that beside the long mandatory lack of 4 years, is that they activates it so close after the unification we ALL had waited for to happen for over 2 decades, is that the belt is up for grabs between 2 men who Oleksandr Usyk had effectively defeated and left no doubts. It become like a 2nd level world title, where it is only a recognition on the paper but not on solid earned merits to claim such recognition. Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois is NO DOUBTs a great match-up, it is but not worthy to have one of Usyk's pieces of his unified & undisputed crown. John Ruiz back in 2000 was at the time not a big markteble champion and even if he proved in the long run being a better HW then Michael Grant, there NEVER existed any thoughts or questions of him having any chanse of defeating Lennox Lewis, that is why there never was any demand for a fight between them. Same was for Chris Byrd, and Byrd was a more skilled boxer but also placed in the 2nd tier of HW calibre, and the reason Lewis agreed to leave the IBF title in late 2002 because there was never a demand for seeing that fight. Lewis wanted only a rematch with Mike Tyson, or a fight with Wladimir Klitschko, and Tyson declined a rematch and when Klitschko lost to Sanders, that was forever lost so Lewis gradually fast lost hunger for keep fighting - there was no demand....until the late staged Vitali Klitschko fight came around after Kirk Johnson went out, and an out of shape & old Lewis still hammered a prime Klitschko. But Lewis was no longer hungry to fight any longer. Big Money was not alone a valid motivation.

Hell i dont even understand how he was able to fight hurgovich before this.. either way i cant see any possible way dubois beats joshua in that fight, if slow as dirt joe joyce can land jabs on dubuois all night, joshua can land the whole kitchen sink.. im thinking round 6 stoppage win for joshua, If joshua takes his time.

Actually the IBF just did what is written in their statute, Dubois held the interim title, the champion vacated his title so the interim becomes the official champion. However, I do think that an additional fight to determine who gets the title would make much more sense. Also this is quite painful for Hrgovic who held the interim title much longer, never got a shot for the real title and now is left empty handed.

First of all, this is the best boxing channel by far. Secondly, the IBF stripping Usyk is an example of everything wrong with the governing bodies in boxing. They continue to ruin the sport with their confusing politics. As you rationally stated, the fact that it's been 4 years since they've forced a manditory is a real head scratcher. It really only leaves you with one conclusion, these governing bodies don't want an undisputed champ. It seems, for some reason, that's not in their best interest.

A fighter's legacy isn't really the belts; it is who they were as fighters, who they fought, and the battles they had. In 20 years, Uysk will be seen as a great fighter. He will be remembered for fighting and beating the best in the division. Yes, becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion is an achievement, but beyond that, it doesn't really matter if one of the titles is taken away. No one thinks less of Lewis for having a title taken away, they just remember him as a great fighter who was one time undisputed.
@mactheknife70493 ай бұрын
Let's see. In no particular order... (1) Usyk took the high road and made the IBF look foolish at the same time, which fans are likely always in favor of. (2) Dubois is now the living Ken Norton. Not in that he's a hall of famer, but in that he's going to be a guy who was awarded the status of a "World Heavyweight Champion" and is then going to proceed to lose it in their first attempt to defend it. (3) If Fury beats Usyk in a rematch and Joshua beats Dubois as expected? There's a 2025 re-unification fight at Wembley that makes everyone a metric ****ton of money. (4) If Usyk beats Fury again or Dubois somehow beats Joshua? The IBF title resembles the WBA belt during the early 1980's for at least a while - a nice bauble of absolutely no significance whatsoever. (5) I'm not opposed to sanctioning organizations, or even sanctioning organizations that enforce (arbitrarily or not) their rules. But I'd like to think that fans see the various titles for what they are in the 21st century: marketing props, and nothing more.

Don’t get me wrong Usyk is my favourite boxer and deserves to be champion but he’s had the opportunity to fight Filip Hrgovic for so long but never took it. Being undisputed champion is about consistently beating the top contenders, not only beating the two top dogs. Joshua defeated Wallin and Dubois defeated Hrgovic so they are the top two ranked by the IBF. It’s a real boot up the backside that Usyk beat both of those guys so none of them have a claim to the real championship but there you go. If you only fight once a year as unified champion of the world, even by today’s appalling standards, you can’t be surprised when you get stripped.

Usyk was the first to sign a contract with the Arabs. He does not choose opponents of his own free will. Hrgovic lost to Dubois, and before him he had never fought anyone worth it. This is a dark horse and, as it turned out, not one of the best. Fury said many times - let Usyk fight Hrgovic. He hoped that their fight would never take place or that Usyk would get injured.

well, it changes nothing. the IBF has ben doing this for a while, but theyre not much more selcetive about whom they mandate a title dfefense and whom they strip immediately. they did it to fury immediately following his win over klitschko. this is a reminder of business as usual with the alphabet sanctioning bodies, and a reminder that still the closest thing this sport has to a legitimate world champion is the ring championship. the ring does something that gives proper credit: if theres a champion, they refer to that fighter as champion. otherwise its titleholder or beltholder in reference to holding one or some of the 4 major world titles of the sancrioning bodies.

Why do we need so many belts all these alphabet organizations is what destroys boxing.
