At 35 and 36 years old, I think it’s fair to say both were past their prime. By this point in his career Tyson had become little more than a head hunter. If he didn’t get you in the first few rounds he had no plan.

That was pretty much always the case for Tyson. He always struggled against competent, technical boxers that could take him past the first several rounds. Reflexes and speed go first, and that was pretty much Tyson’s sole exceptional abilities and advantages in a division dominated by men who dwarfed him physically and had huge reach advantages.

Buster Douglas exposed him first with a knockout. Then Holyfield totally exposed by getting athe TKO and the disqualification in the second fight. Lennox use the same blueprint, improved Tyson is not good against Tactical boxers. I don't care which era he was in, he wasn't as good as those guys. Plus those guys were all older than him so we keep talking about past his prime? They were all older than him. Crap, Holyfield was 4 years older than him. Plus the protected him some to. Peak Lennox against a shot Tyson. Tyson’s peak was 1986-1989. Lewis peak 1998-2003. Short HW using the peekaboo style have short blazing peaks. Tall boxers have longer reigns at peak. Holmes, Lewis. Ali, Lyle even the WK brothers hit peaks in early to mid 30’s. Short boxers such as Tyson, Armstrong, Patterson, Frazier peaked early to mid 20’s. Once a short HW loses his foot speed he’s just a short HW with slow feet no matter what power he carries. Tall HW who thread everything off the long jab use less energy and can box on the back foot. Truth is both Lennox and Tyson are great fighters but met one an other when 1 was at peak the other not. Now if some fans don’t understand this then that’s fine, doesn’t change facts.
