Lennox Lewis stated in The Ring magazine's "The best I faced" that Shannon Briggs was the hardest puncher he faced in his ring career. He said that Briggs really knew how to get his body weight behind a punch; Lennox was no mean puncher himself, of course, and his skill set level was way above that of Briggs - so barring a stoppage Briggs was always going to lose this fight. He fought well for the first 2 rounds, but, cream always rises to the top and class will out. Lennox Lewis is a Hall of Famer and Shannon Briggs isn't , it's as simple as that. Good fight and thanks for uploading.

@@mesyroom😂 ok, there’s only one GOAT and that Ali. Foreman second cause he came back at 50, overweight and out of shape and took the HW title again! Lennox didn’t do enough to overcome those legacies. When he fought Tyson, Tyson was a shell of the former fighter he was and Lennox would never have beat Tyson in his prime. I love watching Lennox fight, he one of the greats but he ain’t who you’re making him out to be.
@howertingsyaboya37895 ай бұрын
@@oldrango883 Lewis himself admitted that Tyson peaked at a young age whereas Lewis peaked later in his career, so its quite possible that peak Tyson would have beaten Lewis. But Lewis was a very intelligent boxer and analysed his opponents to find weaknesses and was able to exploit these weaknesses in the ring. Both Lewis and Tyson fought Ruddock, Tyson in 1991 twice and Lewis in 1992. The Ruddock-Tyson fights were close contests but Lewis picked Ruddock apart quite early in their bout. Different styles and all that, but informative nonetheless

Briggs might have had Lewis in greater trouble in round 1 if he'd picked his punches and didn't get so over excited. When he went in for the finish, almost nothing actually landed. Once Lewis cleared his head it was over - Briggs's only chance was a lucky punch while he was still fresh. Lewis was the superior fighter on every dimension.
@jaybeebee928820 күн бұрын
Generally I agree, that said Briggs could have made it interesting after the 2nd if he'd done any frickken cardio. He'd have still lost down the stretch but LL would have had a lot more questions asked of his performance. Love the guy but he had a tendency to let his mind wander off the job sometimes, as happened in rounds 1+2. I really feel post-97 that cardio was a literal afterthought for him. Which got him in trouble against Rahman, and he looked oafish at times with Tyson. Probably good he hung them up when he did, writing was truly on the wall with the Vitali fight.
