Detailed unboxing and install video of Samson Cholos 33" Chrome Fishtail Exhaust System on my 2021 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic.
Update: Guys at Samson were super helpful and quickly resolved the right side saddlebag bracket issue. They shipped me couple of brackets for good measure :)

I think Samson makes some of the best quality exhaust.. and in my opinion sound amazing. I had a set of street sweepers years ago and I'm hoping to put on some fishtails soon on my evo heritage

I actually went into the dealership looking for a deluxe and went home with a heritage after finding out it was discontinued. I never knew how much I would appreciate bags and a windshield until I tried it . 😆 No regrets at all.

I have a 2023 120th Anniversary model Heritage . I just ordered these pipes today , I am hoping you got the right side figured out , not sure , never seen another video about these pipes . 2-1 will definitely net more power. I had Two Brothers 2-1 on my Street Bob and it was a great fit for it. But for Heritage, true duals just gives me that old school look I was going for. I am ok with loosing a little power 😀

After putting Sampsons on several bikes in the past, this time I'm trying Freedom Performance on a 2018 FLHC I just picked up. I'll report later on how they turned out. I noticed in your video, that you did not need to remove the heat exchange cover or loosen it to remove or install head pipe. My instructions tells to do so. Did I miss something on your video, or did you work around it? Thanks

Yeah I was able to work around the heat shields, but they are simple to loosen and remove. Good luck with the Freedom Performance👍

Hi Lenny, After the Samson true duals were installed and the right side bracket issue was resolved, the saddlebags can be properly re-installed. Need saddlebags when riding two-up. ES

Those are beautiful. How far do they stick out past your rear fender? Do you have any side profile pics showing the fender in relation to the end of the pipes?

Thank you. 33” are not very long (main reason I got them). They only go about 5 inches past the rear fender.

Thanks. Actually all the lights are stock. Haven’t changed any yet. Now, the headlight and passing lights are LED and come stock from the factory like that. The only non LEDs are turning signals and brake lights.

Sweet looking bike! Are there oxygen sensors on the stock mufflers? Because as far as I know 2021 H-D did some updates

Thank you. Yes still the same 2 sensors one per pipe in the front. You can see it in the video when I change them.

@@LennyK thank you for the prompt reply brother! Unfortunately here in our region H-D updated to 4 sensors which is sucks due to the regulations. We can install those exhaust on the 21 models but the check engine light will be on. Waiting for the after market companies to do something about it

Did the left side have movement after tightening up? Mine kinda moves from side to side. It’s not as sturdy as the right side.

Yes there is a little bit more movement on the left side vs. right side because of the bracket placement and thickness. Also, make sure your cross pipe clamp is nice and tight.

At this point I am not using any. Don’t really need to tune anything until I change the air intake.

@@LennyK Hello, Thanks again. The cycle runs and sounds OK without a fuel management upgrade? This is my first H-D with fuel injection. Previous cycles were carbureted Evo and TC 88. When I do upgrade to Samson fishtails, air cleaner will be H-D Scramin' Eagle extreme flow with Zippers Thundermax fuel management. Any opinions will be appreciated. Lots of info out there. ES P. S. A cam upgrade to an S&S cycle 465 gear driven cam will occur in the future.

@@kathyleesawyer5277 sounds like you have a great plan for your bike. As to your question, yes the bike runs and sounds great. These bikes do not run lean, so unless you introduce extra airflow, there is no need for a tune. I will be upgrading to Screaming Eagle intake and tuner in the near future.

Lenny K I have a quick question. I've contacted samson several times and they tell me they don't have an exhaust for the new heritage classic 114 . I have a 21 as well. They told me in emails that the fishtail for 18 and up softails won't work on the heritage due to clearance issues and they are in r&d and expect a release soon. Then I come across your video. I didn't really notice you having clearance issues do you have any idea what they are referring too? Thanks

107 and 114 is the same as far as the exhaust goes. They absolutely have it, but they call it 18+ M8 Softail. There is no fitment issues, but you do have to ask them for Bag mounting brackets. Hi Lenny, Just want to double check something: you mention that the saddlebag mounting right-side bracket needs to be specifically requested? Samson didnt simply forget to add the bracket to your parts packet? I perused the Samson accessories section on the web-site but only found exhaust mounting brackets. @@kathyleesawyer5277 Hi Kathy. According to Samson, they do not automatically ship the specific Heritage brackets for saddlebags. So if oyu are ordering the exhaust for Heritage you have to make sure and let them know to include these (two) brackets. Unfortunately I do not have the part number for them, but if you call or e-mail them, explain exactly what you are looking for. They will know what bracket to send you.

I honestly have not. I would not be surprised if there may have been an HP or two loss but I did keep the baffles in to maintain the back pressure to minimize any power loss.

They definitely look good and sound amazing bro. I have a 2018 heritage myself and have been leaning towards fishtails as well. Looking at what's available, I think the Samsons look the best on the new Softail frame. The bassanis sit too low and look odd with the stock bags and guards and the freedom fishtails sit way too wide. That short video you made showing the pipes with the bags convinced me which way to go. Thanks.

Samson is the company that started fishtails. They are one of the highest quality exhausts, and that's the main reason I got them. It's been about a year so far and no problems in quality at all.

@@chenwang9232 ​ It's always a good idea to put in the new gasket where the connection of the downpipes are to the cylinder heads. Mine was basically new when I did it so I did not have to change the gaskets.

@@LennyK Reason I asked was because I had my dealer install ( I bought the header pipes from Samson n chikla upswept slip ons from Steady custom cycles for my 08 flstn with all the parts for installation. Was told everything is on but the mechanic said it was a bear to install. So the parts dept billed so many hrs n now they may need to adjust for more because of more time which don't know as of today. Originally I was told 2 1/2 hours. I still have baffles to install which I didn't know at the time of purchase, that pipes came without n they will be shipped to dealer next week. Let them drill the hole to install. Should I pay the extra $ it took, if that happens or negotiate.
