THE LENORMAND SIGNIFICATORS ~ What are they for? How to use them?

Lenormand's deck has a unique pair of cards called significators: They are the Man and Woman cards.
For many of us, it's not clear what the significators for, or how best to use them. If you're stuck with this, then this tutorial will clarify Lenormand's significators for you. I also offer you tips for how best to use them in your readings and with your clients. The gender issue has come up for some, but I'll also clarify it in this video.

I’m just starting out and learning, but I noticed something interesting I think. The Man being on the suit of hearts and the Woman being in the suit of spades is somewhat in contrast with gender roles, since the suit of hearts is very emotional and domestic, while spades includes business and public interest. Tradition originating from Ancient Greece and prevalent in European cultural history assigns the private domestic world to women and the public sphere to men. To me, this neutralizes the gendered connotations of both significators. Perhaps which card applies to the readee could then be decided based on whether the nature of their question aligns more with the suit of hearts or spades, if one wants to avoid gendering. Same goes for other significant people such as their love interest.

I had a thought about the woman in your life being represented by a man in your readings: A woman who I go to see once yearly for readings told me that I have the brain of a man in the body of a woman, in this incarnation. So perhaps the same is true of this person in your life. It made a lot of sense to me when it was revealed to me.

I would argue it does matter to have more gender neutral cards (as well as the man and woman cards) because while it could still work with either the man or woman card, lots of non binary people are unconfortable having to choose. I don't think we should comprimise the clients comfort just because we want to use a certain deck. Not to say we shouldn't ever use decks that don't have gender neutral options, I just think that if you know your client is non binary (or in a same sex relationship) you should maybe use a deck that has cards that work for them.

Thanks for an interesting video. Just want to point out if people want to have two women or two men in their deck The Enchanted Lenormand Oracle has two sets of men and two sets of female cards, as well as a divination card so it might be handy for those people who would prefer to do a reading for themselves or others about same sex relationships.

I've come across these decks, Kelly. They're not classical Lenormand and tbh I'm not sure why 2 of each would be needed. It might be a design thing, whereby the reader can choose which 2 cards they'd like to insert into the deck. But it's very easy to just assign the readee to one and assume the other to be a partner or prospective partner regardless of gender. Still, it's totally fine to go with whichever deck you resonate with.

So funny. As I was watching the video, I was thinking a good naming structure for the two people would be "Querent" and "Not Querent" and then later I saw this comment. Would love to know which deck you're referring to.

@@bellamtarot a KZbinr called The Truth in Story designed her own (abstract) deck. She has a couple of videos where she goes through the cards. Honestly, not sure I'd do a tableau with it, but up to a 9 card spread would work fine.

When I read for myself or with my guy friends I almost always appear as the woman or the fox, but when I read with my girl friends I usually appear as the man

Hi, I Char and i have been watching and following you since you started on you tube. I find the way you read the Lenormand really fantastic, it is almost the same as me. But I also have a question. Are you open to the new Lenormand form, the two men and the two women in one deck, would it not be more simple for beginners to start of with replacing the person card if one is reading for a same sex reading? I personally leave them in the deck and as you said it gives more insight to the situation and questions at hand. As for example if you have a gay couple and they are men, then the woman might be significant to either men, as it might be the mother or sister or some other significant female in their life. the Same if it is a female couple it might be significant to them as the male could be their father or another man in their life. As you only use the Titanean cards I know there are no other person cards as extra. That is why I will use another deck that has the two cards, as i also use the numerology and cartomancy to further enlighten me on situations and questions of the querent. Thank you Charlies. This warms heart. I'm totally open to it. Go with the deck that you resonate with best. Personally, I'm good with selecting the significator that works best for my client and assuming the other significator to be their partner/prospective partner. In a way, because the Man and Woman are so neutral, they're kind of just placeholders for people regardless of their characteristics.
