You Sir are an absolute star! Just followed your excellent instructions to upgrade the PSU in my Lenovo H50-50 to a 780W beast so that I could upgrade the graphics adapter to a GeForce GTX960...works a treat. Thank You so much for finding the time to post this invaluable information :)

Stephen Peake Really glad it helped! I like Lenovo products but find it annoying when manufacturers do stuff like that. BTW, be careful of small animals getting sucked into the GTX960 :) That thing is a beast! Happy gaming!

+AdventuresInDIY hey man you did an awesome video there with that older slimline very short and to the point and perfectly well explained. can you help me out? I'm doing same as the guy above or below here I just bought the lenovo H50-55 (specifically the 90BG001YUS) for my birthday here and I was going to pull the MSI geforce 960 gaming 2gb card I just got for my older hp desktop. so when I went to put an also new 600w psu from the hp into the lenovo I saw the 14 pin problem. So it's got a little 280 watt psu with simple 4 pin and 14 pin to motherboard and the rest from mb to hdd and DVD drive but it's wide and has room for the big new psu just gonna have the same pin adapter issue as your video. can you tell me if I can buy a diff psu that will work out of the box or do I for sure have to copy you on this video? also if so I would love to ask you more details on how to do the creation of the extra 3rd 12v wire or whatever cuz you flew thru that pretty fast on this vid. hope to hear from you soon so I'll know if I can make this work before the return policy is up! thank you so much. +Tim Sperling yeah I found the ready to go plug n play main power adapter on amazon for 7 dollars, I am going to have to return and replace my h50-55 because the fan speed is maxed out at 100% and stupid loud because the heat sensors are wonky or the motherboard or chips are tripping but thanks to your original video I know that's their problem and not mine so I'm going to replace th3 whole pc and then do my power supply and graphics card upgrades and I should be good to go thank you!

Thanks for the video. I have a Lenovo m900 tower thaat uses a 10-pin psu. Have you had any experience with the wiring on those? Thanks again.
@AdventuresInDIY

jonathoncasey Sorry, I haven't had a chance to do one of those yet, but I started the process by looking at the wire color description on the original power supply. It told me the voltage associated with each color. From there it was just a matter of matching up the voltage requirements for each pin into the motherboard.

+Annton FiftyFour I can't reply to your comment because of your settings. I did a quick search and came across this MSI GT750ti that is low profile that looks like it would work goo.gl/EJU1Tb . In the amazon question area it looks like someone made it work with the 180W power supply, but it Nvidia suggests you use a 300W one for your whole system power.

I've got the h500s and just ordered a new graphics card because I need the hd output for my tv. It has a 65w external power supply I home its enough. I find the lonova website rubbish for info on upgrades. I found it hard to find parts with it being a slim line your videos defiantly will help me

Looking at the Lenovo website on your PC it looks like a Nvidia GT 620 was the max card you could install as an add on option. Using the Nvidia website the max power spec for that card is 49 watts. Based off of those 2 things you could probably get a GT 730 or 720 and be fine.

mtuey That graphics card looks fine. I just couldn't find how much power it draws from the system. Only that it requires a 400 watt power supply. Just make sure you keep all the packaging in case there is a power consumption issue when you install it. I've installed graphics cards in the past that required more power than what was being fed to them and you get a warning saying the graphics card will not function at full capacity because there isn't enough power available. Please let me know if it works for you. That way other people can benefit.

It's not going well I put the graphics card in turned it on blank screen took the card back out turned it on. All it shows in the Lenovo sign and that's it, it won't boot widows got my brother inlaw looking at it he's an IT bloke. Left scratching his head not looking good might be the graveyard for it

mtuey Open the box up and make sure all the power and sata connections are seated properly. Especially all connectors the connections on the motherboard for the drive power and connectors on all the drives. Can you boot into the BIOS? If you can, you can make sure that the PC can see the hard drive. It'll be listed on the summary page.

Hi, I have a Lenovo H520s, however it looks very similar to this PC in the video. I was wondering if you could provide a link to a PSU as I cannot find one online. Preferably one with the 14 pin adapter as I don't trust myself to cut the adapter like in the video.

Danny Hughes Sorry, I just tried to search it out again but didn't find anything you could directly drop in. You could always get the tfx power supply and order the adapter someone found in the previous comments below. I think its around $20 for the 24-14 pin adapter.

This is why I custom build all my computers. I hate replacing those connectors. In my previous military life, nothing was worse than having to do that while laying upside down in the cockpit or stuffed in the tail boom of a helicopter.

Hi! I have the same problem. I bought 24pin to 14pin adapter and now there's no connector for the 4pin atx slot on motherboard. Should I take the 4pin connector from the adapter and plug it in that slot? Or is it better to use 20pin to 14pin adapter?

tired of all the shits of the OEM Motherboards where you buy motherboard adapters when one part is in problem, been assembling one mid range cpu. better handpick all the components for the better. i recommend you to buy asus. just keep in mind with the LGA of your cpu for compatability

I got it working at last. I used that 24pin to 14pin adapter. There was that 4pin ATX slot which was needed next to processor. My power supply had 8pin CPU connector but it was possible to split in two 4pin parts so one of those goes to that 4pin slot.

I don't have access to that particular model, but I assuming it is similar to the h530s I have except the processor. Sorry I can't give you specifics. You could go with any TFX power supply but make sure is at least 350watts like the one in the video and article link. You probably would be able to use a KENTEK 400 Watt 400W TFX Power Supply. I looked on amazon and the connections are standard atx connections. You'll still have to reconfigure the power connector to the motherboard so it'll work. If you do decide to get that kentek make sure you measure your current power supply and see if they match up. For graphics card I'd go with a Nvidia 700 series low profile card. You might have to do one project at a time. Power supply first and then graphics card. Hope this helps a little.

Hi, I have this same pc and I'm planning to get this graphics card: www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GT730SL2GD3BRK Will the 180W power supply be enough for running this card with no problems?
@AdventuresInDIY
@AdventuresInDIY 9 жыл бұрын
I think you'll be OK. The power consumption on this card is pretty low. The Nvidia site says its recommended 300W power supply www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-730/specifications , but the power consumption is pretty low at 23 watts. If it were me and I didn't want to upgrade the power supply, I'd try installing the card first. If I ran into power issues then I'd upgrade the power supply. What it comes down to is I'm not 100% but I've installed these cards in other slimline systems before without an issue.
