Good video - thanks for the info. One suggestion to anyone who is new to upgrading a computer... Never wear clothing like a sweater (or similar clothing) when working with computer components. It is possible to create static electricity, which can damage the computer. Wear a ESD badge and mount/ ground it to a non-static surface.
@lastmakc
@lastmakc 2 жыл бұрын
In theory, yes. Reality - very unlikely. It is a good caution, and it is always better be safe but in real world it will take quite a bit of static to damage anything. Games nexus conducted a vigorous experiment on their KZbin channel and concluded the chances are extremely low.

There is space there for a hard drive, but no bracket or cable included. I don't think the connector for it was present on the mainboard either. Presumably they are included in version of the laptop which include a hard drive as standard, although I've not seen any here in the UK.

I have a 4+ year old laptop that is working fine, but it may die in 1-2 years. I would like my future 💻 be able to upgraded ssd, add ram and add a second hdd for all my data(music, movies, pics, etc)

There is space for a HDD, but models which don't come with one don't have the bracket and connector for fitting them, so you'd have to source these. Some manufacturers do include these in the box or pre-installed on some models, but Lenovo chose not to in this case.

No. No modern laptop (besides some gaming ones using desktop parts) have an upgradeable CPU. The GPU on these is either integrated into the CPU, or soldered to the mainboard, so the only way to upgrade them would be to swap in a higher spec mainboard, which is unlikely to be economical vs. just selling it and buying a higher spec laptop.

I tried installing a ram for the first time. Does the laptop take some time to boot for the first time after ram installation. I tried installing more 4gig 2666 ram and it didn't boot even after 5 second. I removed it and it boot up immediately. Or do I have a faulty motherboards and claim warranty? Edit - tested the ram. Its fine and working

Hey James, I'm upgrading the same laptop SSD right now, and I'm using a Team Group 512gb m.2 2280 gen3x4 SSD.. I cant get it to boot to the ssd though, it keeps saying there is no bootable media? @BrueComputing
@BrueComputing 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I'd really call it a 'special tool' - a plastic spudger, or pry tool, is pretty standard for working on disassembling any modern electronics. You could use a small, flathead, screwdriver, but any metal tools will mark and indent the plastic.

@@BrueComputing *"pretty standard for working on disassembling any modern electronics"* Which is precisely why I call it a special tool. The average person doesn't disassemble electronics. :) Anyway, I succeeded by using a dinner knife. About an hour's work with only minor marks.

@@crypticdelights6924 You should be able to open this laptop without using any tool at all. All you need to do is to open the lid half way and keep the screen side flat on your lap so that the base of the laptop is against your chest. At the right corner you will be able to feel a grip and just try pushing outwards. The back cover will separate from the base at the corner. Then with your fingers you can slowly pry open the entire cover. This process works for most Dell/HP/Lenovo laptops.

@@BrueComputing so i installed a brand new 2280 team group ssd from a guy on ebay that had pre installed windows 10 on it and for some reason the laptop would not load windows. it just simply said ("default boot device missing or failed. insert recovery media and hit any key then select "boot manager" to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media") I tried to see if there was any settings in bios to change for bootup and there was not. The seller and i agreed to send it back to him and he plugged it into his laptop and it loaded windows no problem. I have bought sata ssd from for a old acer laptop and that worked just fine. Could it be because i have to load windows into it after installing the new ssd and it for some reason cannot have windows preloaded from another pc? @@BrueComputing yes, I already knew that you meant solid state drive when you said m2... but today at this point nobody calls the new M2 nvme modules ssd anymore. I don't know if I explain myself. saying ssd today is used to name the old 2.5" ssd disks. of course each one can refer as they want, but everyone I know no longer uses the acronym ssd to refer to m2, so we understand each other better for when we refer to module M2 and when to ssd of 2.5. It is a very good way to differentiate between my clients, so there is no room for doubt. since a 2.5" ssd is much slower and older than any M2 nvme

Awesome just what I need to upgrade my wifes laptop, I was wondering if I could fit an 8 gig stick of ram rather than the 4 gig or even a 16 gig stick she does play some games so more ram will be of benefit to her. I would probably put a 1 TB or a 500 gig m.2 in as well as there is no other way of adding storage other than an external drive which is also an alternative. I have fitted the hdd enclosure in place of the dvd drive but these don't have a dvd drive so that rules out that lol.
