Lenovo ideapad s145-15iwl customer replaced the screen and the fuse blown up, how we can fix it?

You should not feel bad as you have the skill to solder the motherboard. It is a big deal, perhaps the guy was not comfortable doing it himself or did not have the equipment to do it. I was sold a computer that only needed a new screen, yeah the fuse was gone which was not mentioned. It took me several months to buy what I needed to eventually fix it. What may seem so very easy to one may be anything but to another. It was nice of you to give him a discount 🙂

Windows 11 red stockers sold on ebay/amazon.. oem multi-licenses . Usually PRO version. No idea if these can be legally re-sold Btw.. i think the customer not see the fuse.. the 2 arrow are pointing a missing capacitor.. and the resistor... looking at the scars on the missing capacitor soldering area he tried to bypass with tweezers the cap... making 7.4v to ground..with the result of shutting down the laptop and maybe a sparkle .. scared by the sparkle he send you the laptop.

Hi laboratorioassembler, it's not a cap, if u see the serigrafy on PCB u can see Is Fuse F3301 but you can be right with the following hypothesis..... I'm from Florence can we share experience and help each other.. let me know, bye Francesco Timpano

@Timpano_Francesco_Repairs ciao Francesco, certamente F3301 e la serigrafia del piccolo fusibile bruciato , ma le 2 piazzole dove il tipo ha tentato di fare un bypasss con i tweezer erano certamente state progettate per un condensatore di grandi dimensioni... ( probabilmente mai montato sul progetto finale )

I used to buy Windows licenses from an American reseller and because I bought so many he used to include an extra 5 or 10 red licences. In this case he told me they were Canadian licenses and he was not allowed to resell them so he gave them to his better repeat customers.

Lenovo has options to protect the battery with slow charging and optionally fast charging and charge limit 11:40 that's why current might be low.. it's a toggle in lenovo vantage software ..

Use wires from LVDS cable, its very thin and near to genuine fuses.

F3301 is 3A 32V rated, can replace with e.g. Littelfuse 0435003.KRHF. A wire seems.. dodgy?

Nope, it's not dodgy. He already demonstrated with the voltage injection prior soldering a wire to reconnect the open circuit, that the backlight only took 0.12A at 7.3V which is less than 1W. A 3A fuse would be an overkill. How did it blow up then? The customer accidentally shorted the backlight supply rail to ground. That part of circuit is fixed and will not short circuit again until the laptop die with a different problem or until the customer fiddle with that part of circuit again and cause the same accident.

Lenovo backlight fuses are prone to burn at the slightest provocation. I once damaged one by touching it with my finger.

You must have a current flow, if the standby voltages are generated. Approximately 10 mA.

If I understand the downside of this fix is: For now the screen is ok. What happen if something short out in the future? Instead of the fuse blow again the other protection need to work before this fuse. This may cause the latop to shut down instead of just loosing the backlight. Am I correct? Thanks 😊

There is no downside. This supply rail for the backlight circuit is now fixed and will not short circuit again. However, in the case that it does, the wire he soldered to replace the fuse will burn out first because it is very thin, and if it doesn't, that current sensor resistor next to it will. Then on top of that there is still the short circuit protection from the system monitor, then the battery management system part of the battery itself, and finally the short circuit protection part of the charger adaptor.
