Yeah rog ally x exceeded my expectations this year. Undeniably the best handheld hardware out. And the Ally/X is so customizable with software and customizing to how you play. Ally + Bazzite (and in the near future native valve steam OS support) with a 2tb ssd is literally the best handheld experience right now. Ally x has 2-13 hours of battery life depending on game and tdp, and with bazzite its literally a beefed up steam deck. The screen has VRR meaning you can play a game unlocked at 48-120fps and get no screen tearing or judder. Smooth gameplay, lots of power, huge battery, nice colorful 1080p 7inch screen, literally nothing to say bad about it. Even has 24gb of ram like geez

@ Rog Ally screen is still amazing. Not oled but when u have 1080p, 120fps, and VRR with bright colors then you don’t really need OLED. I surely don’t miss it

I've had a legion go since launch. The number one problem with that device is graphics drivers updates. As in they don't release them. The go is currently running on drivers that are over 7 months out of date. I can't recommend this device on that alone and frankly the experience has soured me on buying any future portable legion device. It's very frustrating.

@Orain88 download the drivers from amd? Seems like an odd problem when it's common sense for any pc to get the drivers from their source, not through windows updates or third-party software. I get people want these to be console like and as straightforward as possible, but it's still a pc, and needs to be handled as such. I have been using bazzite since I purchased mine and have zero complaints. When steam os releases I may switch to that but bazzite does what I need and stays out of my way.

This! I sold mine when they released driver updates which were almost 6 months old already! If they allow Steam OS to handle all driver updates I might think about it, but I'm also excited to see the next Rog Ally, so next handheld for me is going to be an Asus, Lenovo lost me with their lack of support of their software and the TDP control in BIOS never worked for me.

@oscaspunkja the custom tdp settings finally seem to work for mine as of a couple months ago. I would install steam os when it gets released but the main thing I like having the go for is CoD and game pass. Idk, I might give up and install steam os if lenvovo continues to neglect driver support. Its a big disappointment. And here they are making new hardware without fixing their software, it's a bad look.

I agree that they are pretty god awful with GPU driver updates. I did notice there's a new driver on their site, from the 13th, although not sure how old it is. Will install and see.

Great thing about a Legion go running Linux; _Graphics drivers are always up-to-date._ The Legion Go doesn't have a drivers issue; it has a _Windows_ issue.

It's an interesting concept. X% of game sales up to a maximum cap of $100 credit per console sold. I doubt anything like that would ever happen though

About the steam family: I recently started to play a Square Enix game. A issue that I ran into is that when going back and forth from pc to deck is that not only the save data is synced but also the game settings. This was the case for many SE games. I moved to Assassin's creed and turned out that that in some games (Unity, Black flag, Rogue, syndicate) the save data won't even sync. To this needs to be added the fact that some games won't even support cloud save. If you are gonna make a "family" everything should work as one, and for that Valve will need a lot work from the developers. Valve should have an approach for local save data that could sync at least between SteamOS, similar to Syncthing. And definitely push developers to make a per machine configuration.

My games of this actual year are Unicorn Overlord, Balatro, and Metaphor: ReFantazio, but my personal GotY is plaything through the whole of Armored Core 6, since I haven't beaten any of those games of 2024! 😂 I'd also like to play Shadow of the Erdtree, whenever it and Elden Ring next go on sale after I got an OLEDeck a few months ago. And, I do love my OLEDeck, and it is my favorite overall device of the year, tho I should also note that I love my RG35xxSP and sorta regret getting the Retroid Pocket 2S rather than waiting for the Retroid Pocket 5. Then again, I wasn't sure this Spring whether I was even gunna budget for the OLEDeck, so it was a little bit of a learning experience. 😝

Dunno - when looking for it you were able to get Legion Go and Rog Ally quite cheap quite often (well below 600$). I would prefer both over a 6800U device anytime, if targeting somewhat modern games - especially considering the lackluster driver support for Vega these days.

I’m convinced the steam inputs are not steam os but for steam controls while in big picture mode but will still be windows 11. I have the current legion go and love it but the legion space hardware is junk and I find myself using steam big picture from start up. The only problem I have is not having the steam button or quick access which this will fix!

I've got a new question about the steam deck. I occasionally switch between handheld and docked/tv. When in handheld i obviously use the steam deck controls, but when docked I use a series x controller. For the life of me i cant figure out how to set the steam deck to automatically switch controls? I have to manually reorder #1 and #2 priority controls between the deck buttons and my series controller. Example: if i pick me deck off the dock to use in handheld, i have to go theough the OS menus and reorder which controls are primary. Does NOT matter if the series x controller is already turned off, hell i even turn bluetooth off altogether and it still doesnt reorder primary controls

Could you guys cover the DeckSight OLED panel mod for LCD model Steam Decks? It's like Deck HD but instead of a 1920 x 1200 resolution it's a 16:9 1920 x 1080 AMOLED panel fitted to replace the stock LCD panels. It's currently funded up to 20% and would be cool if it could get signal boosted.

I have been running native steam OS on a 6800HS mini PC for over a year and it has been great, a handheld with a 6800U or HS would be great as well I'd love to have a 1600p screen that does proper 1:4 scaling from 800p to 1600p for those games that cant efficiently be run at 1600p Please do not use a 1200p/1080p screen i'd rather have a native 800p screen if its not 1600p there are too many games that run too slowly, or too hot at 1080p on a 6800HS, maybe an 8845HS would be fine but i'd still prefer either native 800 or 1600 again assuming it doesnt look like crap when running at 1/4th resolution like the current Legion GO On the subject of games running hot/inefficiently and sucking down the battery, i'd gladly buy Legion GO (1 and 2) aftermarket grips that trade the motors for battery, say 12-25Wh per grip

They should be focusing on integrating high performance from the dock with the steam deck(think some sort of internal gpu that automatically works with the steam deck or an gpu option and make it a seamless docking experience similar to the the switch. If they make a standalone home console, I’m not interested at all. I’m a lifetime console gamer from the nes all the way to the ps5. I moved to the steam deck to get away from consoles unless it’s like the switch that does both handheld and couch coop gaming, I’m not going back

Fantastic show as usual. 2025 is going to be such a big year for gaming. A new GPU generation, new Switch, possible new steam os devices, and of course the heavily rumored Valve set top box. And the games to follow are going to be sick for sure. A couple of years ago, the sentiment on YT was there was hardly anything to play and that the gaming industry was dying. It feels so far from that now.

From a business perspective I don't think is good idea for Valve to make steam os available on the legion go or ROG ally because the reason steam deck price is low, valve is making money on the game sales so if there is another more powerful handheld that can give you the same steam deck experience the steam deck sales would be affected unless they bum up th price of steam deck

Valve isn't worried about steam deck sales, they are worried about GAME sales. So steamOS on everything, whether it's first or third party, is the endgame. Even if steam is on the legion Go, buying a game still gives money to Valve. Also, steam deck sales won't suffer because it's the first party device publishers are optimizing games for, and the most affordable handheld unit. So don't worry, third parties will just be for the big budget whales

People keep saying that nobody wants more resolution than the Steamdeck has, but here we are again when people give candid opinions the Steamdeck is fouind to be deficient.
