I find the best thing to do is set a framerate cap with V-Sync and adjust settings to make sure it's consistently running at that framerate. That way it has moments to throttle down the wattage and it keeps temperatures and fanspeed under control, plus a consistent framerate is better than a high variable one IMO. When connected to a monitor I have my laptop vertical with the screen partially open (like an upside down V). That way there's no heat build up underneath and no airflow restrictions. When travelling I use the huge power adapter to prop-up the back of the laptop, but a cooling pad with a large fan would be ideal if using the laptop monitor.

@@rodolfotsang4327 I think they're a very good idea. Gaming laptops pull a lot of air through underneath and gaming with it directly on a desk chokes the airflow and makes it louder and hotter. I make do without as in my first message, but a pad with a big fan is probably what I'd go for otherwise.

The legion 7 I have very rarely breaches 90+ on the CPU. It never throttles. Even above 90 is fine really, these components are made to withstand high heat. Also if you use 100% locked fan speed then that’s only putting more stress onto the fans so it’s still not perfectly ideal. I didn’t like the auto fans when I first got the laptop but they have grown on me over time. They never hesitate to ramp up if needed and on less demanding games they don’t need to blow your ears off.

@@moritz6424 while not exactly good for the components, they are made to tolerate that kind of load. All the cpus and gpus are getting tested at factory under high loads for extended periods of time. Granted, that you are not gaming 24/7 they will be fine. And even if you would they would still probably do fine. Just service your laptop and care about it, then it will make you happy by serving you good.

Advanced thermal optimization only affects the minimum fan speed and it’s also in bios. If you want the fan to shut down at low load or idle, you can only choose level 0.

But i don't understand why the asus is a bit cheaper as it has a 360hz refresh rate and ddr5 memory while the lenovo only has ddr4 memory and 180 or 120hz refresh rate.

The only problem I've had with this laptop was a compatibility issue with a 1TB WD nvme drive, that the Bios and the System (64 bits Windows 11 home) refused to recognize. I've tried several fixes, but all failed. Have you ever tried to put another SSD drive into your machine?

Interesting. I applied liquid metal to my Legion 7i with the 11800H and my CPU temp is at around 72, my GPU temp at 70 under full load, without any fan curve adjustments. I plan to drill the holes in the bottom cover bigger for more air intake and add some aluminum heatsinks to the vapor chamber cooler for increased surface area. Then I'll build a cooling pad with some quiet noctua fans. I'm sure I'll be able to reduce the fan speed to a minimum for very silent operation.

It does not, I would have noticed. The original paste was some Honeywell thermal paste which is really good, better than most after market. But liquid metal is better still, though not by much. I just ordered everything I need for the mods, I'll keep you updated if you guys are interested in how much better it got (or if it got any better at all :D)

I personally checked the Legion version with Intel and Ryzen processors. Laptops with Intel processors are much quieter, cooler and have better performance.

Wanna keep the processor colder and fans quieter? Simple - choose Quiet Mode in power options. My Legion comes with a shortcut Fn+Q for that actually. Yes, probably some freakishly demanding games would get a bit jumpy because of the lowered performance, but if you're not playing one of those games - do try it! I'm playing Horiozon Zero Dawn on Ultra settings and the processor maxes out on 70 degrees and the fans don't make the laptop fly

Obviously it limits the resources, that's the whole idea, but some games don't need the full pool. I finished Horizon Zero Dawn on quiet mode and apart from maybe 5 weird jumps it was nice and smooth. Didn't check FPS, as I'm not that picky - as long as it's comfortable for my eyes I don't care about the exact FPS value

i think you should have shown the dB diffrences when 3:11 started imo. I have a rtx 3060, r5 5600h (which usually runs quite cooler than a 5800 by 5-10degrees) and i reach while gaming, laptop lifted, auto mode, hybrid off, 70 ish degrees on cpu +/- and about the same on gpu, usually bellow that most of the time

Hei, i had the same temperature problems with my lenovo legion 5 pro. I have done just like you, 3-4 repastes with thermal grizzly hydronaut and the temps were very bad, cpu was hitting 100c almost all the time. I have done a research on the internet and i have found a thermal compound named "phobya nanogrease". Results with phobya: -Ryzen 5800h 80c on balanced and 90-94c on performance mode 50-55w at 4.050ghz -Rtx 3060 at 120-130w max 78c with oc +170 core and +700 memory If i use the fans at 100% temps are lower with 4-5c. Phobya is very good for laptops with low pressure mountig systems as this model of laptop.

Brother, I would be really happy to have your BEFORE thermals! I have a Legion 5i Pro 7th gen, and it reaches around a (+- 3 or 4 degress) 95 CPU / 85 GPU temp in a few minutes and stays there indefinately. Im not sure whether to send the laptop in for a refund, thermal paste it again, buy IETS GT500 or what I should do. I've only used it for 1 month, and the thermals have been this bad the whole time basically, so no chance it is dust accumulation in the fans.

@@klevero4eek Not solved, its always hot and loud but it seems to play ok while hot anyway. Only thing helps for me: Lift back of laptop 5++ centimeter. Buy laptop stand with holes under your bottom vents. Use FPS limiter in games. The monitor is 165 Hz so limit ur fps to 165 max.

My legion always reaches 100 on cpu and 85-90 on gpu and thermal throttles constantly. I tried everything like repasting and cleaning out the whole cooler assembly. Running games on balanced mode like you suggest causes the system to crash.. The software you suggest doesnt run on my system (2021 - 17inch). I tried the original one and it said controller not found. The new version 2 asks me to change something in the command folder which is not something I'd do. Really dissapointed with Lenovo hardware..

hey I had the same problem, so I went in the legion discord, and got the solution there. you have to go in your registry and do the following : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CI\Config\VulnerableDriverBlocklistEnable and change the value from 1 to 0. Reboot. that's it, I hoped it helped, for me it worked first try after doing that.

Ive been playing certain games which reached around 65-70 Cpu temp. Now is around 80-90 while Gpu is ok. @@thayraugaz9812 Go buy it ! My unit just need a repaste of the CPU/GPU guess it not done properly during production. Now all is good gaming temps hover from low 70 to high 80's during high load.
