I got Windows 11 Pro...No problem so far..Just watch out for "Third Party" apps. I also have Xeon processor.

Should I go for ECC RAM if I go for Xeon processor? Planning for Xeon with 128 GB RAM. But on fence on whether to go for ECC RAM or not. Would appreciate your recommendation.

So it really depends on what you’re doing. Most the time, if you’re doing rendering work, it’s all about the single core performance - so in that case, I’d go with the highest clock rate i7. If you’re using it as a mix, then it really don’t matter. The primary benefit of the ECC is reducing the already rare occurrence of memory errors. If your workflow has a lot of several hour renders or exports, I’d say ECC is probably the best way to go just to help prevent the off change something does go sideways. But, if your workflow has renders or exports that are sub one hour, I’d rather have the i7/i9 and save the money.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you think it’s worth waiting for DDR 5 RAM and 12th Gen Alderlake CPUs in the next gen of P15 or it’s good to go ahead and buy the P15 Gen 2 now, considering Lenovo is yet to announce the next gen? Currently I have the Thinkpad W541 for over six years and looking forward to upgrade to P15.

Hi, I'm going for p15 gen 2. i7 11850H. 16 gig 1 tb. Rtx a2000 4gb. I'm an architect and will be Primarily using cad, SketchUp, Revit, blender. This is the only model that fits my budget. Will I face any issues? Especially while using blender?

Another Architect here. I have been using W520 since 2010 and it still runs the programs you mentioned except Blender, which I haven't used. It appears to be GPU based so having better graphics card may help, but you also have to consider the complexity of the scene that you are trying to render. I don't know how many years you have been in the field, but more experience I gained, lesser renderings I get to deal with.. I barely draft nowadays and usually direct juniors to do them. Nonetheless, my W520 has been really reliable even more so than Dell Precision model that my company set me up with. Perhaps I had a defect in a good way that I ended up with the one that doesn't break... I still use it for CAD and graphics for my own home and garden improvement projects. It handles Adobe premiere, Photoshop, and InDesign effectivelyb as well. I would get this P15 if my laptop stop functions. Since I know this laptop can last longer than some cars, I would go for the highest CPU and GPU that I can afford. You can buy RAMs and SSDs on Amazon to save money. However, do some more research here and try Architect.com where there are many threads about laptops for architects.
