Yes, would love a comparison between the Lenovo Smart Clock $80 and the Amazon Echo Show 5 $90.
@orestes19845 жыл бұрын
They're two different products... less is more... That you want to watch videos and make video calls on a device with a crap 5.5" screen with a 1megapixel camera is one thing. The fact you want a camera in your bedroom another. It's bracket overreach. The shortcomings of the Lenovo Smart Clock are its inability to choose alarm tones, clock faces and receive video calls. On the first one yes its annoying, on the second one slightly less so, on the third, I don't care for watching video or making video calls on such a small device, less is more. The downside of Amazon devices is the almost complete inability to use Google apps altogether including KZbin. With the Amazon Echo you're reduced down to using a web browser to use KZbin, with no voice control what so ever. Do you want a clock or do you want a device you can sort of watch videos on and sort of make calls on. Do you want to put up with Alexa or do you want Nest which is completely compatible with Android and iOS. I have a million and one devices I can watch video on. I don't have a smart clock that can tell me what the weather is doing while playing me my latest songs from Spotify.

You can always say OK/Hey Google Display off, as I have a pair of Insiginia Voice Smart with Google Assistant, and do it all the time before I go to bed. In fact if you go into the Google Home App for Android(I don't use iOS so not sure of what features are there) you can set Downtime mode where the display goes off at a set time, and comes on at a set time alone with Google not taking your questions other then set/cancel/snooze Alarm, or what time is it. Anything else it will say I can't do that now, and you can do it for all the ones in your home if you have multiples say in every bedroom, kitchen, etc.. so only you, and those you authorize into your Google Home can override it in the app, everyone else like kids, guest, etc.. can't.

If you don't need the full color LCD display Best Buy has one with a much better speaker, called the nsignia voice smart bluetooth speaker with google assistant which are a bit cheaper and it shows the time, alarm, and temp on the display. I've had a pair of them for a couple of years now, and they have been great additions to my home. Just never rely on any Google Home device as your sole alarm clock because if the power, and/or Internet goes out they become useless, so set your phone's alarm as well 5 minutes behind.
@RaySchrantz5 жыл бұрын
I've been waiting for this to come out! I got my family Phillips Hue smart bulbs for our bedrooms and so far the only way to turn on and off the lights is via the app, widgets, or physical switch I bought for each room. I've been wanting a google home mini in my room, but this is much better because it will give me the option to turn on, off, and dim the lights with my voice, as well as, allow me to check the whether while I'm getting ready for work and such. Though I did just get a new alarm clock for Christmas that's honestly the best alarm clock I've ever used and it's super easy to adjust the alarm. Then again, I have to remember to reset the alarm each time, which means I have to get out of bed everytime I forget to set it, so there's room for improvement. I'll have to decide if it's really worth it to me.

If anyone's conflicted about this, I recommend you take a look at the Insignia Smart clock! It's a bluetooth speaker, google home assistant, and clock in one package. The only issue that some may have is the google assistant updates only occur when Insignia rolls them out, so there's no guarantees that it will stay up to date.

The alarm must be set on the clock itself. You do have the option to have alarms recur weekly or have the clock "suggest" a different alarm for you each night. This may be a helpful feature to work with your swing shift, despite not syncing with your phone.

@@doublet91 I definitely understand your struggle! Like I said I think your best bet for this would be the suggested alarm feature. You'd have to tell the clock which alarm to choose every night, but it would have the memory of your day/off/night alarm so you don't have to create a brand new alarm every time. I understand that this isn't the optimal solution but it may be the best for your circumstances. Hopefully this is helpful for you!

Hey ! Nice vid. I'm looking top buy this. My Q is if we can connect this Lenovo smart clock to a regular Bluetooth speaker ( not smart) to get music on my BT speaker (not on the smart clock) ?

I've had a pair of the Best Buy insignia Voice Smart Bluetooth speakers with Google assistant for a few years now(one in my bedroom, the other in my kitchen/dining/fireplace room), and with the built in basic clock, and temp display, they have been great additions to my home, and the sound quality is really good with their bigger speaker, along with more better control of the volume level going from 0 - 100% plus they also have a USB port for charging up stuff, but I will say don't rely on one of these as your only alarm clock in case the power goes out, and/or the internet goes out because then they are useless!! Set your phone's alarm 5 mins behind your Google Home device just in case, as I've had it happen to me a couple of times during bad overnight storms. So yeah if you don't mind a bigger device, don't need the full LCD this Lenovo version has, then look for the Insigina version when Best Buy puts them on sale, or you can find a good deal on a used one, and one other pro tip, if you find one that someone says is just flashing 4 lines in the display, you can usually reset them by holding down the mic mute button on the back for a few seconds, it will reset itself with some tones, and will then ask you to download the Google Home app for Android, and it will take you threw the setup process. Having said all that I hope Lenovo makes a version like the insignia with a bigger and better speaker, but smaller 2-3 in LCD display, for about $50 USD, and I would snatch it up ASAP!

Maybe in next gen it will be worthy of purchase.

If the internet goes down the alarm and clock still remain operational, but the clock does need power to work. If the power goes out and comes back, however, and the internet is working, the clock will reset to the correct time. Hope that helps!

As it is with all of these, the relevant question is does it work fully as an alarm clock. Does it have a power back up. Can you set the alarm and use it if your internet connection fails. If this is not the case you need a real alarm clock anyway and the utility of the device would be modest. Remember an alarm clock has to work every single time.
