This looks really well done. Not everything needs an LCD display with hundreds of additional apps and functionalities. Aside from no backup battery for power outages (which I think I can DIY) this runs really well as an alarm clock with great google assistant INTEGRATION and not just having google run the alarms on the cloud (which would not work during internet loss) and actually has hardware integration for the alarm. I think I would actually prefer this over my nest hub.
@CommodoreFan644 жыл бұрын
I've had 2 of the old Best Buy Insignia Voice Smart Clocks for years, so I have to agree these kind of Google/Nest assistants are perfect for bedrooms, and/or minimalist setups, as they don't disturb your sleep like a Google/Nest Home Hub would, and provide more information with the clock, alarm, and temp displays then a Google/Nest Mini speaker. Far as those complaining about you not muting the Okay Google commands they just need to either wear headphones, or just know to hit the mute switch on their devices before watching a video like this.

One of the problems I have with using my Nest speakers as alarm clocks is that, very occasionally, the WiFi in the house will go off or a speaker will disconnect. This review is good! Here are some issues i feel need to be fixed in future iterations of the product: - Hardware keys to connect remote bluetooth music - Scratch easy screen - Load delay during startup (when wifi is not available), same problem with the Lenovo Smart Clock - At least a 1000mah power backup should be there by default in all smart clocks (gives at least 1-2 hours backup without music, because music speakers come with power backup), power backup for music ringtone and clock is a must.

The hardware is great - the speaker sounds amazing for its size and the device looks really nice. But it definitely feels most of Google Home devices are unnecessarily overengineered and absurdly counterintuitive. For example, I just don't get it why there is no way to set alarms from the phone WITHOUT having to speak to the Google Assistant? I also don't get it why the speaker doesn't support my language - while my phone does (and in both devices it's all cloud-based, so what's the problem then?) Also, there is no dedicated button to switch on or off the night light on the Alarm Clock - wouldn't it be useful to do that when you wake up in the morning but don't want to wake up your spouse? When you set both an alarm and a routine to play the radio, they will play simultaneously, like there were two independent devices inside the clock. There is a gizillion routines to choose from in the Google Home, but NOT ONE to manage the alarms you set and NO way to conveniently select a radio station. This is nonsense. The list of ridiculous design choices here goes on an on. There are forums with threads full of people trying to figure out how to use the Lenovo SMART ALARM CLOCK. This is everything but smart. The manual for the Smart Clock Essential only very vaguely explains how to set alarms - without properly explaining the steps. Another example, another device - the Google Doorbell blasts the notification "someone is at the door" through all the speakers in my home, and there is no way to select just one. Funnily enough there is no way to change the chime of the doorbell (sic). I feel the devices were created by people who never tested or used them themselves. The Google Home ecosystem is a dumpster fire. This is why many people like Apple more.

Some youtubers which review all sort of things do have in mind, that the don't want to trigger peoples devices...
