No numpad. I can't imagine how they manage to offer a quadro-equipped laptop for engineering folks, and not add numpad function combined with Fn key.
@pd51564 жыл бұрын
@@circuitdotlt You can swap FN key with CTRL in BIOS or lenovo thinkvantage software (but I'm agree, it's dumb). I personaly like the fact that there's no numpad for aestethics and most the time I work with external monitor and external keyboard anyway. Also, lenovo has something for "numpad lovers", T5xx series and P53 (or something). This P1 is like more "pro" version of X1 extreme which is direct competitor for MacBook Pro (same thing with Dell's XPS "precision" and HP Zbook "Studio"). I'd like to see thicker powerfull 14 inch workstation for myslef, maybe Ryzen M4800u bring something like that in the future.
@circuitdotlt4 жыл бұрын
@@pd5156 yes you can swap Fn/Ctrl (but then you end up with incorrect markings on the keys). Numpad function, however, is a different issue with all lenovos. By numpad I mean the second function of JKLUIO keys. Most HPs and DELLs have them. No idea why lenovo does not include this, when there is zero extra cost. Or do they have to pay royalties to someone for including the feature??

Thinkpads are legendary for their keyboards, but the P1 and X1 extreme gen 2 have a keyboard defect that cannot be understated. After trying 3 different devices, I gave up trying to use it. You have to press directly in the center of the key to register a press, and even then, it misses a substantial number of key strokes. Lenovo forums are full of reports and failed attempts to fix it.

Not sure how 7h are even possible there with a xeon processor and Quadro Graphics. The battery capacity was never designed for a 4K OLED screen as its the same as GEN 1 had without an OLED option. + on 1:05 i can see the screen being very glossy. So only the inner layer isnt shiny? For me this product is bad. They put the next gen Intel CPUs in a thermal design of the older generation. Guess it never left the prototyping space and got pushed out with no thoughts spend....

Got this as work laptop and it's been pretty nice so far. One thing to note if you want to upgrade the M.2 SSD yourself: you need to get a single sided m.2 drive with no chips and just flat PCB on the other side since only signle sided drives fit the slot. I've seen people jam a double sided one in but it will bend the drive and maybe not be good in extended use. The info is buried on the Lenovo website in one spec sheet PDF and not found very easily, had to ask from EU Facebook support page for this since the normal chat on the Lenovo site didn't know anything about their products... :)

I have a 1st gen X1 Extreme with the i5-8300H. This CPU thermal throttled like crazy. It went up to 4GHz and right back down to around 2 after a few seconds. If the new generation does this, it's worth to check out ThrottleStop and undervolt the CPU a little. After a 150mV undervolt my machine can sustain 4GHz for an extended period of time. It's a rather safe procedure, the worst thing that can happen is that the laptop freezes if you undervolt too much and will reset.

I bought one when they still had the anniversary promo going for $1,636.08. Got the i9 with 16gb ram, 512 SSD. I wanted long battery life so I chose the 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) display. I got it mainly for programming, a little bit of an overkill, but boy this machine is blazing fast. It feels durable, ruggedized and light at the same time. One of the few problems I have is the fun noise, it kicks in once in a while when you are not even charging it and running light applications, and it comes on regularly when charging. Another problem is the back lit keyboard, the lights bleeds through the gaps around the keys and can be very uncomfortable to use when the light is on; I do touch typing so I can do without the light. The last one is the heat. If you normally put your laptop on your lab then the head can be a problem, especially when charging. If you are buying one, I will advice you install the browser extension honey, it will get you all the coupons that apply, and Lenovo have quite a lot of them. All in all, I love it because of how fast and steady it is.
