Thanks for explaining this. Exactly what I needed. Very helpful and crystal clear.

Forgot to mention that the battery should be switched off on BIOS or unplugged from board before any sort of upgrade operations!

Thanks for the video. I wasn't sure about the best way to remove the back cover, so this was helpful. How is your plastic tool made? Is it a credit card? How thick is it?

I just bought the AMD version of this laptop. Like yours, it only has 16 gB of RAM and a single 512 gB SSD. I want to upgrade both the RAM and storage. My question is, did the RAM and SSD's in your laptop have thermal pads? If so, can you re-use them or should you use new ones? My first impressions: It seems very solidly built, without being excessively heavy. Weight is about 5.2 lb. There is no RJ-45 port for Ethernet, so if you want to connect to an Ethernet router, you will need to purchase a USC-C Hub that includes an Ethernet port. These hubs cost around $30 for a 6-in-1, up to about $50 for a 10-in-1. Be sure that the hub you buy supports 10 Gb/sec on the USB ports, and 1 Gb/sec on the Ethernet port. Some of the cheaper hubs only support 5 Gb/sec on USB and 100Mb/sec on Ethernet - you don't want one of these slow ones. Also, if you do an upgrade, do NOT discard the original SSD and RAM that came with the machine: if you need to make a warranty claim any time in the first year of ownership, you will need to re-install the original RAM and SSD's or Lenovo will deny your warranty claim.

How is the thermal situation - do the fans easily go spinning or only under heavy-duty tasks? And how is the keyboard - I hear it comes with 1.5 mm of key travel?

the Thermal Situation is very good , I was working on this laptop for couple days and the fans barely spinning hard with heavy loads , it can handle the heavy loads Easily !!

The fans only spin up under heavy task loading, or if you are using the laptop in an area where the air temperature is above 80°F. The ThinkPad has pretty good thermal management for a laptop. If you are used to desktop keyboards that have 3~5 mm of key travel, this laptop keyboard, with it's 1.5mm keys, will feel strange at first, but you will get used to it pretty quickly.
