Hi, I was educating myself about the topic of SSD and their bus interfaces (SATA or NVMe), and after reading I am still not sure whether this laptop supports NVMe. One key insight is this idea of SSD keying, where we have types like M, B, and M+B. Can you tell me which keying type is compatible with this laptop? For example, I'm looking at SSDs on my local marketplace at Facebook, and I see one Kingstone 1TB SSD, but it has one notch in the connection pings -> ||||||||_||||, while the SSD currently on my laptop has two notches |||_|||||_||||.

The SSD that came with this laptop, (factory one) was it an NVMe or m.2 sata SSD?

Im getting one of these that has an nvme 256 what would be a good low cost upgrade? Also the one im getting has 16gb ram. I would like to upgrade to what im told is a max of 24gb. Just wondering what i would need. I don't have it in my hands yet so im not sure of the layout. Thank you

For budget NVMe SSD's you could look at Kingston, Timetec, Patriot, Silicon Power brands. If it comes with 16GB, I am guessing you got the version with 8GB soldered. So, you would need to purchase a 16GB DDR4 SODIMM. The speed will cap at 2133MHz, so you don't need anything higher than that.

You would have to purchase a motherboard with an i7 as it is soldered on.

Yep you can add a m.2 SATA III 2242 SSD. This T470s actually has 8GB soldered, so by the end of this video it had 16GB total.

@@CvajjoThere is only one DIMM slot and 8GB soldered to the board. Specifications list 24GB being the max. I was able to install a 32GB ram stick into my T480s for 40GB total, but I am unsure about the T470s. 24GB RAM is plenty for that system, though. What do you want to do where you think you might use 32GB?

There is 8GB RAM soldered on to the motherboard so you cannot do dual channel 32GB. It will be 8 + whatever capacity RAM stick you install in the available slot.

Another thing how can you get the stereo mix to work as I going to use mine for streaming audio & there is none in there. I was using windows 10 but I put a clean install of windows 11 now both same thing no stereo mix option.

@@drsysop There is either 4 or 8GB soldered RAM depending on your laptop. If RAM is soldered on to the motherboard, no you cannot remove it. Your only option is 1 x DIMM slot for 1 x RAM stick, which will add on to the existing 4GB. As for the stereo mix, I am not sure for Windows 11. I'll take a look online.

You can, but for the T470s this involves swapping out motherboards. So, if you want an i7 instead of an i5 you can purchase a new motherboard and swap it out. The CPU is soldered on to the motherboard, so it's not possible to remove just that.
