If you are having troubles prying the cover at 1:10 or opening it at 1:15, check for rubber cover on docking port next to USB-C/Thunderbolt. Remove it, if it is there. It did the trick for me. Regarding 2nd drive - according to many, it should be possible. M.2 2242 NVMe (not SATA!) SSD can be connected to WWAN m.2 port and fits the room.

In regards to hard drive questions: There is a single 2.5 inch drive bay, and in that space you can either have a SATA drive or an NVME drive. However, the NVME drive requires an adapter and separate cable (as shown in this video). The WWAN M.2 2242 slot can support an SSD as well, but it must be an M.2 2242 PCIe drive - 2242 SATA drives apparently do not work in this slot. Currently, there are very few 2242 PCIe drives on the market (could not find any on amazon or newegg in the US). The LITE-ON T11 256G drive is compatible, but can only be purchased direct from China and is a bit pricey.

Excellent Info. So the 2.5" / M.2 are in the same spot. So if you bought it with the base 500gb drive you likely wouldn't have the nvme try additions for putting in a nvme drive yourself. Why would they make a 15" notebook and only have a single fan. That likely explains the performance fall off after the first time running Cinebench. It likely heats up.

Looks like there is a long rectangular gap/ empty space between the pink mvme ribbon cable and wifi card. It would make sense to be able to install an m2 drive in that space. However I dont see a screw receptcle, maybe it's under the black tape? But then the coin battery mouting screw might be in the way, not sure. Would be even better if both m2 and traditionally ssd c an be installed simutaneously.

I'm having a hard time finding a 15.6" laptop that actually makes use of the extra space, and isn't just a hollow stretched out version of 13" internals. So many things the extra space could be used for: battery life, but that adds to weight, better speakers is a no brainer, but i guess they neglect 15.6" lines cause of lower sales. it's crazy this is the design at $1000+

@@jonathanbyers791The two standard batteries are kinda meh tbh. The larger external battery is a lot better, but the two batteries aren’t really a big deal unless you plan to replace the external one.

I have had several service calls on this model where the user has installed the HDD tray upside down causing the HDD to not be visible. Cable is not keyed so essentially the connection to the adapter card is reversed.

Do you have one of these videos on the E580 and how to open the back to find and reconnect an Ethernet adapter which is not connected to the computer right now? This is my last option and if it's broken I need to have it fixed.

The upgrade of the graphics card ist not possible. I have one in my T580 but Lenovo limits the Temperatur to 70 degrees which limits the performance to about 50-70% percent of a normal MX 150

This laptop would be perfect if they'd put in a secondary full size 2280 m.2 slot since 2242 drives are difficult to find and expensive a dvd drive bay so you can swap it in future for an additional hard drive a backlit keyboard as standard equipment and remove the useless internal battery since this laptop supports external batteries and resume from hibernate takes less than a second on NVME ssd drives

Power bridge was a key technology, far superior to a mere external battery. You could hotswap batteries without powering down and stopping your work.

@@slighterHibernate takes a few seconds, so it's good enough... tho just imagine if they sticked with powerbridge but with 2 full-size external batteries! This laptop would've really been something then!

is it possible to exchange my FHD touch display for a non touch FHD display? i already have the display cable for the non touch, it does fit on the motherboard connector but obviously not on my currently broken touch display. i cant really find replacement touch displays, or they are just expensive + non touch is way cheaper and i dont need touch

the hard disk conneciton to MB is not PCIe 4x. it is just simple sata 3 which spoils the whole point of NVME

Beckie they do have them on Ebay for about $55. plus shipping. There is currently one seller that is selling a keyboard from a removed working laptop. Seller Laptop-goods. I did watch a video where they replaced the keyboard, because I didnt think mine came with backlit, but it did! GOOD LUCK!

Check in the Lenovo Vantage program. My T580 has the lighted KB but delivered with it turned off in the settings. Had low and high setting and off for the back light.
