As always, like your reviews, even the earlier ones. No fancy humour that does not add to the review or gimmicky stories. Just straight to the point tech reviews. Thank you! Oh and I noticed that occasionally, you would freeze mid sentence, like you are running out of swap space or something. haha

Me too. I have never seen the X1 tablet in person, but from the vid it just seems less streamlined than the SP4. The pen holder on the X1 Tablet looks chintzy and I'm a tad on the fence that you can't angle the Lenovo 20 degrees [or so] like the SP4.

Can you please do a review on the Lenovo IdeaPad Miix 700 its only $700 and it has M7 8GB of ram and keyboard/pen ?
@Splackavellie858 жыл бұрын
I dont see too much wrong with the price. A Surface Pro 4 with 256GB, 8GB RAM and Type Cover will cost you more. Granted, you get the more powerful i5 compared to the m5, but if you're deciding on design, ergonomics and other preferences, it's quite a nice alternative. Plus, the option for 4G and the added USB-C port are nice features.

I'd love to see a smack down between the Thinkpad X1 Tablet & the Surface Pro 4. Please could you briefly cover the differences in how reflective the screens are? I've seen a lot of remarks that the Thinkpad X1 Tablet is reflective to the point of being very distracting, even indoors.

I actually prefer the form factor of the Helix-line with its standard keyboard. The Helix's Ultra Pro Keyboard has a hinge and battery (which are nice), but also has more weight and a larger footprint. The Helix 2 standard comfortably fits on a lap or small desks-the kind you'd find in lecture halls. The Surface line, X1 Tablet, and Samsung TabPro definitely need a larger desk than what I'll be using throughout my doctorate. Will there be a Helix-type keyboard for the X1 Tablet? The Helix keyboard has a decent mix of portability and functionality. Good keys due to the design/depth, and a more traditional laptop footprint that fits on any surface. And Windows tablets still have larger bezels than I'd need/want. I'm sure I could handle an LG Gram or Samsung Notebook-like bezel without any ergonomic concerns. Still though, I can't buy into this generation of devices. Does the X1 Tablet even support Thunderbolt 3? If I were to splurge on a laptop, I'd need something that could dock with an external GPU and replace my desktop. Looking forward to the day where I can carry around my tablet+keyboard all day for productivity, then dock it into a GPU+KB/mouse+screen for gaming and general use. If it were the same size as the TabPro and had an AMOLED display that didn't burn in, I might be even more glued to my screen than I already am.

Lisa, do you know whether it's possible to use the X1 tablet's keyboard without attaching it to the tablet? I have an old neck injury and for ergonomics I sometimes put my laptop on a stand and a keyboard in my lap. Does the X1 tablet's keyboard also connect via Bluetooth? I guess I could always get a separate Bluetooth keyboard, but if the X1 tablet's native keyboard already has Bluetooth, that would be great.

Great review as always, Lisa! Could you help me decide on my next laptop, please. I have a main desktop to process larger programs but cannot notate or draw with it. I'm debating if I should get a tablet or laptop and specifically looking at Lenovo's X1 Tablet and X1 Yoga Laptop. I really like the idea that the both products are sturdy/robust and that the tablet can attach the 3D camera and projector. I would like a device for both home and work, to use MS Office Suite, and to draw, present, and network (Google or Skype/video meetings, etc.). Will you be reviewing the X1 tablet's 3D camera and projector? Any other advise?

would be interesting to see if not having the Iris 540 option is a reason enough to go for the SP4. my impression is that the power throttle limit is more binding with the Iris 540, so you end up having quick burst of graphic power, but not say, for longer term use like rendering a video in Premiere.

please do a comparison with SP4. I received the X1 tablet for a week already. I mostly agreed with Lisa's review, but find myself preferring the quality, value, and design aesthetic of the SP4. However i've never owned the SP4, so i'm interested to see MTR'sr comparison of the 2! Maybe throw in Samsung Tab Pro S as well:P just to be more constructive with the comment, I agree with all the positive things the video had mentioned. Some bad things i found including where i've had couple incidents where the keyboard would not function after turning on the device, the device turned itself on while in the backpack causing the machine running warm to almost hot while in the backpack. I’m suspecting it might be because the power button is pressed while in the backpack, and Windows Hello is trying to scan the finger print. Also the built in WRITEit would randomly turn on even if i'm in the laptop mode.

+mrbonzzai Im also wondering why wacom wont build a 17 inch cintiq companion, 13 inch version is too small. The panasonic toughpad 4k was close but it has been discontinued and they havent updated it, it sucks that panasonic didnt see the potential.
@mrbonzzai8 жыл бұрын
GiveLove777 I think wacom just doesn't have the engineering resources to put out so many computers. What I don't get is why none of the other laptop making companies don't get more behind a 15 or 17 inch surface pro or book like devices. People have to get work done!! Yeah the toughpad 4k pro was close. Very expensive, old processor, and short on battery life. I don't actually need 4k screen either. The standard version has been updated, but doesn't meet my specs requirements.

mrbonzzai No problem. The next best thing is the Vaio Z Pro. No, if only I could get that running El Capitan. The Vaio Z Flip might be a good option for you. It's not a true tablet, and still only 13,3", but it's pretty powerful, has good integrated graphics and the pen performance is excellent.

The price isn't that bad considering you get the keyboard and pen in the box. Of course these Core m CPUs can't compete performance wise with the i5 and i7 SP4 models. I will accept less performance in exchange for the absence of a fan. The combination of the modules and Type C port are interesting.

I don't get why all the major companies are doing 2-in-1 with a flimsy keyboard. They're trying to copy the original Surface, but I think that's a flawed design and only came about because when the Surface first came out, they couldn't make the keyboard part of it thin enough to be a full blown clamshell base like a regular laptop. Now that the size is down, the clamshell-style base is where it's at (I'm talking about the Surface Book design). Have a Laptop when you need it, and detach it for Tablet use.
