To all the people saying this is insane: You are wrong. It is not that hard to do. I followed the steps in the video and had it done in 30 minutes just make sure you organize your screws well. Also a lot of the steps in this video are not necessary to clean your fan out. Simply follow the steps to removing the back panel, then follow the steps to remove the keyboard. Blow out the dust from the fan and put it all back together.

So basicly you need to rebuild the laptop in order to clean the cooling system.

Actually, I don't think taking it fully apart would be needed. Just pulling the bottom panel off and blowing out the fan with canned air should be good enough. No need to pull the heat sink off and redo the thermal paste IMHO.

@@BrianReichert You should change every 1-2 years thermal paste so yeah and if it heats too much it is time to look inside

@@VelehokalaI just opened this laptop for the first time in 9 years. It worked fine a week ago. No overheating.
@Velehokala
@Velehokala Жыл бұрын
@@NaudVanDalen It needs to be 100% load to see if it overheats. and usually these dont even auto shutdown. you need to look temps by yourself. and also thermal paste dont go bad i think if it is not in use

@rahujian1234 mandu It's not an issue of 'don't lose screw'...it's a matter of not torquing them too tight, or they might have to be drilled out and then you're screwed. If the system has gone to Lenovo for a repair, well, good luck...most of the screws will probably be too tight to remove without stripping/drilling out, and it's very difficult to find replacement screws anywhere except from that Lenovo repair shop.

I probably will do this next month. I've done this kind of deep cleaning to many laptops, so I have a lot of experience. Nevertheless, I see in the comment section a lot of people are having problems, like the laptop don't turning on. Is it them that don't know what they do or do it carelessly, or is this Y510P a really tricky laptop to disassemble and assemble correctly?

All that work just to replace the fan? Might as well part it out. It's already in pieces. guess I'm lucky with a Dell E6530 and it's modular fan. 2 screws, and a cable. I'm thinking a strong blower like a datavac from inside the housing would blow any dust through the vents without disassembly

many thanks for the video!! I have to do that in my laptop. Question: reinstall the w8.1 is not as easy as should right? I read the lenovo forum and this particular laptop don't allow to install w10 for example. Something to do with the boot menu. Do you have any instructive video so I can install w10 instead of w8.1? thanks, regards from Argentina!

I did everything as demonstrated in the video. the fan works perfectly fine now, but the speakers don't make any sound. I opened it again and checked, it looks totally fine but it still doesn't make any sound. Everything else works just fine. Its also not a software problem as I checked in device manager. Any clue for what might have happened?
