To all the people saying this is insane: You are wrong. It is not that hard to do. I followed the steps in the video and had it done in 30 minutes just make sure you organize your screws well. Also a lot of the steps in this video are not necessary to clean your fan out. Simply follow the steps to removing the back panel, then follow the steps to remove the keyboard. Blow out the dust from the fan and put it all back together.

Actually, I don't think taking it fully apart would be needed. Just pulling the bottom panel off and blowing out the fan with canned air should be good enough. No need to pull the heat sink off and redo the thermal paste IMHO.

can you remove the fan without removing the whole thing? I don't feel comfartable lifting the keyboard
@420dogma6 жыл бұрын
@rahujian1234 mandu It's not an issue of 'don't lose screw'...it's a matter of not torquing them too tight, or they might have to be drilled out and then you're screwed. If the system has gone to Lenovo for a repair, well, good luck...most of the screws will probably be too tight to remove without stripping/drilling out, and it's very difficult to find replacement screws anywhere except from that Lenovo repair shop.

I probably will do this next month. I've done this kind of deep cleaning to many laptops, so I have a lot of experience. Nevertheless, I see in the comment section a lot of people are having problems, like the laptop don't turning on. Is it them that don't know what they do or do it carelessly, or is this Y510P a really tricky laptop to disassemble and assemble correctly?

All that work just to replace the fan? Might as well part it out. It's already in pieces. guess I'm lucky with a Dell E6530 and it's modular fan. 2 screws, and a cable. I'm thinking a strong blower like a datavac from inside the housing would blow any dust through the vents without disassembly

Any clue for what might have happened?
