Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 8" AnyPen Review

Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 8” Windows 8.1 tablet with AnyPen that allows you to use a pen, pencil or any other metal item to write, draw and point on screen. It has also has standard capacitive touch for those who prefer more gentle forms of input. The tablet has a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z3745 CPU with Boost to 1.86 GHz, 2 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of eMMC internal flash storage. Other features include a very sharp and bright 1920 x 1200 IPS display, dual band WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB host, a microSD card slot, 1.6MP front camera and a rear 8MP camera. The Yoga Tablet 2 has Lenovo’s swiveling hinge-stand and a 6400 mAh battery that lives in the hinge barrel. It sells for $299.

That's some pretty interesting technology, but the lack of palm rejection really puts a damper on it for me, also considering that, aside from using a smaller tip, pen performance was comparable to that of a capacitive stylus. Great review as always Lisa!

As long as you avoid scissors and knives a screen protector should be fine ;) But seriously, given that one uses metal objects like pens and pencils, the average plastic screen protector probably won't last very long.

I've become a huge fan of these tablets from Lenovo. The 1920x1200 display is beautiful and 16:10 is great for portrait mode. The stereo front facing speakers are loud and sound really good; the system comes with Dolby audio equalizer. Even the camera is a step above what other manufacturers put on tablets like these. The battery life lasts all day long. These are the only Windows devices I don't run down the battery on in regular usage. Also there's no preinstalled bloatware on these machines (maybe that's part of the Windows w/ Bing agreement). The Yoga 2 tablets are by far the best small Windows tablets on the market that I've tested. It really is a shame they don't make these more widely available in the US. I believe Best Buy has a retail exclusive on the 10" model, other than that you have to go to Lenovo itself.

I believe I have found my tablet of choice! Either this one or the 10" Yoga with Windows. It ultimately comes down to bluetooth keyboard vs AnyPen feature...and which one I want more. Although the screen size is smaller, I prefer having AnyPen. Using Windows in the desktop mode, I'm willing to sacrifice 2" to be able to use any fine metal point to navigate without worrying about a stylus pen. I have a 7" Android tablet right now, and I'm used to typing on-screen with it...so I can go without the bluetooth keyboard on the 10" version.

Thanks. Hoping for a Cherry-Trail and 1080p only version (because these Intel GPUs wreck scaling on some videos from certain sites w/ no option to retain proper aspect ratio).. 1080p might not happen tho, probably the same 1200p resolution.

I'm using an older Yoga 10" android tablet. The hinge is very rugged and useful, IPS screen and very good speakers. Hard not to recommend.

Does it have a layer of wacom digitizer in the display, which makes it also a pressure sensitive monitor? oh, i just got to the part where it said you can't use plastic which means it is not a pressure sensitive display as well as capacitive. People really need both if they want any sort of accurate writing to text ability. or drawing.

An error in the video. This tablet hasn't palm rejection of any kind. Not at all. The tecnology it uses to recognize those "any pen" makes impossible the palm rejection thing.

Looks like a great devise..It's a dam shame apple hasn't done any thing with a stylus or any pen...Come on Apple I had to buy a note pro and surface pro.. Have you tried the new wacom bamboo for iPad ..Its a bit pricey but i finally got rid of the adonit jot pro....I really hope if Apple makes the iPad pro they include a pen....

How is it junk? It's great and affordable. Pricing must be due to Intel's processor, might be cheaper with AMD for sure.
