Zhiyun Tech has been on the forefront of small handheld gimbals for mirrorless cameras and now comes out with a larger option for DSLRs and even some cinema cameras, meet the Crane 2.

I have one and love it, it's almost magical! I have mine coupled to the Canon 5D IV and it's a great combination. For me the only downside is firmware updates and the phone app. which I find hard to fathom but that might just be me! As always, spot on review

Great video - Thanks! HOW do you RESET THE TILT to horizontal/flat after using the PF mode with joystick, or the Follow mode? I received this great gimbal today and read the little manual of course, but no hint there. Surely there is a way?

I have the smartphone version and was blown away now I am frustrated with being called etc so need a dedicated system and damn this dslr version sounds like an insane improvement btw I added a mini tripod to the bottom of mine before it was cool...

Basically in crane 2 there are 4 modes PF,L,F, and POV . We can go in POV MODE if we are in F MODE and then press mode button 4 times

The latest firmware 1.73 gives full control for the Nikon D850 and some later Nikon DSLRs (Zhiyun do not actually specify which others these are). Sony still very limited and the Panasonic GH3/4/5 is currently limited to start stop video. Take photo, but their chart states control of AF. As other reviewers have mentioned. This is not a fault of Zhiyun (they obviously would want all cameras to be fully compatible from a sales point of view). It is the Camera companies that have to allow their firmware to support the Crane 2's functionality.

Hi, thanks for the review. This is my first dslr gimbal. I got it balanced, turned it on and it worked perfect. But when I turned it off it appears to not be balanced anymore. Do we need to rebalance it after each time we use it? Thanks.

as with any kind of pro gear let me say this, if you haven't been using your arms and forarms lately to the extent they are in good shape, you are going to find this baby as light as it can be a real ball busting mthrfkr. Great if you're in good shape, pure hell if you aren't.

It was similar in the days of film photography with camera bags... mine was around 9/10 kg, filled with all my gear for reporting. So, no surprise here... reporting has always meant good shape and fit, and shall always mean.

I have an old crane and made some sitting profiles for different situations. In the phone app I named these profiles; funeral, wedding, and sports. QUESTION, will those profiles show up in the menu on the gimbal?

How do i recenter crane 2? Its a pain for me for not knowing this cause when i use ff mode to rotate then switch to other mode. Its not center anymore. Or does zhiyun dont have recenter feature?

I just got this and I am having an issue with the lock mode. I press it once for lock mode and after a few seconds the lock mode goes right back to pan mode. How do I keep it on lock mode?

I was super excited to use this Crane 2 Gimbal but unfortunately I received a damaged product. The battery door hinge on the gimbal fell off when I opened it. In my opinion having a door hinge for the batteries is extra and unnecessary

I plan using while biking or skiing in the winter. even though I have a light camera, someone said I might better take the zhiyun crane 2 cuz uf the higher wind resistance due to its weight. is that something you could agree with?

They are very similar in cost actually, I've had very little hands-on with the ronin S but am planning to do a side by side in the future to compare them. I really like the Crane 2 and haven't had any issues with it other than the things I mentioned in the video.

Can someone tell me how on EARTH to put the plate on the camera/lens? I've got a Canon 5D IV with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens, and I cannot for the life of me get the plate on. The micro will fit into the larger part of the usb port on the 5dmkIV to gain control of camera settings.

Agree with everything except the dual grip comments. The true dual grip is much better than the mini. Where the mini shines is cost and that’s about it. Good review

There is no original L plate for Crane 2. You can find the third part plate online if needed.

Thanks! I would say the same thing as TheRelihunter, Get an external monitor and you can mount that to the top of the Mini dual arm or the Dual arm with a swivel mount.

But even than do not forget the shade that comes with I think most monitors.. else it is still a pain to see in direct sunlight. By the way even with shade it is sometimes difficult to see good screen because of course the angle you are holding the gimbal .

Smaller cameras yes I wouldn't recommend it for a phone it's a little overkill I would look at the freefly movi for phone.
