Leo registered two assists against Switzerland in a national team game, yesterday. He got lots of praise.

He does not look as flashy as some of the other top prospects, but that could be because he's playing in a pro league
@emeraldcityhockey

Definitely think that plays a role in it, but he's just not a flashy player to begin with. Really strikes me as a patient, take what the other team gives him kind of prospect who never look as "special." Still think he'll be great in the NHL and that style gives him a great floor

rotf same exact over here! I had already locked into Fantilli since we lost Bedard, like 90% of the experts, and my jaw dropped draft night. I know Leos gonna be good at minimum.....but Fantilli's grit an tenaciousness is something the Ducks need. Leo's gonna be good, he's gonna be good....just keep saying it lol

As someone who has seen Carlsson playing for my home team I can say this, he isn't flashy because he plays simple and safe. Given his age he's the most intelligent player I have seen live and alwaysgets the most out of his abilities. All ducks need to do is not f##k up and they will have a hall of famer candidate for 15 seasons minimum on their roster. Carlsson just is THAT good.

Nuclear wristshots. First three strides are explosive and he can get up to speed in a hurry. Knows his spots and when to pick 'em. Ducks have a player.

I like him way more than Fantilli whose hero mode might be harder to translate and was underwhelming on world juniors while Leo rocked with mans in SHL I know this is minority opinion but i see him as better player than Fantilli for future
@s.b.3275
@s.b.3275 Жыл бұрын
Yup I feel the same, that when Carlsson hits his stride, he'll be much better at creating space, transitioning and making quicker reads in the NHL then Fantelli aswell as much harder to knock off the puck on the cycle because of better puck control, crafty hands, thicker frame and higher IQ

Great video, again, Dylen. I really like Carlsson and think he has a very bright future ahead of him. The biggest thing with him, to me, is the position he ends up playing. He's got the tools to be a center but he's played a lot of wing so far. BTW: As far as comparisons. Carlsson himself has compared himself a bit to Anze Kopitar. Big guy with solid, not elite, skating that should be able to be a good 200 feet player with good offensive skills as well. Though, Malkin would also fit.
@emeraldcityhockey
@emeraldcityhockey Жыл бұрын
Yes, the position he ends up playing is definitely going to be a question. Could see him ease into the NHL as a winger and then make the switch to centre after a year or two. I can see the Kopitar comparison, but I just think he plays more patiently in the offensive zone and he doesn't slice through to the slot the way Kopitar does. Rather, he's more of a perimeter guy who wants to dissect things and thus the Malkin comp (that and I just said Fantilli's comp was Kopitar haha)

I don't know where the narrative that Fantilli is a better 2 way player than Carlsson is coming from but I'm not seeing it.
@matthewkabel6246
@matthewkabel6246 Жыл бұрын
Me neither, Leo’s always in the right spots positionally to defend whereas the two way narrative with Fantilli largely stems from his tenacious backchecking and physicality along the wall. Fantilli has some good defensive habits for sure but in terms of fundamentally playing defense and knowing where to be and how to quickly suppress opportunities Carlsson is superior

Now that the draft lottery is over I'm checking out prospects my Sharks might draft at 4th. Ive heard rumors Colombus is interested in Will Smith at 3rd. Hoping Leo passes to us. This is by far the best video ive seen breaking down his game.

@@Judaddy1 Ending up in 2nd would've landed your team Fantilli, who might be even a bit less talented than Mickov. But, any team should draft Fantilli at No. 2 because his talent isn't that far off of Mickov's (if at all). Problem with Mickov, which everyone knows, is he's stuck in Russia for a few more years and he's a lot smaller than Fantilli. But, Mickov or Carlsson certainly wouldn't be much of a downgrade from Fantilli.

His shooting and skating are going to get better. He's hands down top Swede coming out of the draft since Elias Pettersson. He's got a mix of Kopitar and Barkov, Selke level potential while being a top producer for his team. Best all around centre of the draft hands down. His IQ is off the chart, is instincts are refined. Malkin is way off. What makes Carlsson, well Carlsson, is the potential of his two way game, Malkin was an offensive juggernaut
@Random-yb5di
@Random-yb5di Жыл бұрын
I agree that Kopitar and Barkov are players who Carlsson might emulate. But i think Malkin isn't off at all. He is playing in the SHL and is 18-19, most players in that age wont be doing flashy stuff in the SHL at that age. His playstyle will be much more clear when he have reached the early stage of his prime.

I honestly think he’s gonna be a bust. I think Axel Sandin Pellika will be the best player to come out of sweden in this draft class
@bajjanitor
@bajjanitor Жыл бұрын
Do you mean like "I don't think he's going to win the Hart trophy any time soon" when you say bust? Because he's probably the safest best in the entire draft to end up as at least a good top 6 forward. As he has been playing 2 seasons against men in the top European league now, this last season on the second line and performing better than anyone drafted last year (which includes #8 overall and a bunch of players drafted in the teens and later in the first round) in both that league and back when he played them in the top junior league. I definitely wouldn't bet against Sandin Pellikka becoming the best Swedish player from this draft year though. I think he will be a steal for the first team that have enough balls to pick him.
