The impact of playing competitive hockey on the development of Matty and Shane is more impactful than the impact of anything beyond *winning* the lottery. Let's not lose sight of that when talking tank.

The points are decent, but defensively he is a liability, he is blocking the development of Shane, he is turning Canner mid, and he has objectively one of the worst contracts in the league. Not his fault, but it's all encompassing.

You guys said it best. Kraken played well in the 1st, but then the beast that is the Jets woke up and dominated the 2nd and 3rd periods. They have the best powerplay AND the best goaltender in the league. The fact that the score was only 2-1 and not 5-1 is a miracle.

One shot away from a win against a better team in a losing season isn't a bad thing. Seattle will be a team on the rise. Solid goalie a true number one d man and a solid number one centerman, this is what you build a good team around. First time viewer and a Jets fan. I watch podcasts from the Jets opponents post game and this is one of the more impressive ones that I've watched. Informative, thorough and relatively unbiased lol Keep up the good work

I’ve thought this for a while, but the team leadership needs a shakeup, both in the FO and in terms of the roster on the ice. Frankly feels like inconsistent effort and focus (or just outright giving up on a season at times) is an acceptable outcome in that locker room and that can’t happen in a successful organization.

Sorry but arrogance is looked down upon in hockey. I don’t arrogant players spouting off how good they are. This is what separates hockey from other pro sports. Humility. That is why the best players are so humble. It’s all about the team. It’s always we before I. You never hear a player say I, I ,I. It’s always we and the team.

You acknowledge that an egotistical player like Sprong is toxic for a locker room, but ignore the toxicity of playing with someone who does not put in the effort and continues to get ice time. Frankly, considering how bad Stephenson has been on defense, I would have been annoyed if I were in Sprong’s shoes too. After all, the criticisms of both players are the same - good albeit occasional offense with little to no defense. He likely saw Stephenson’s poor play as an opportunity. Even if the chances were slim I can’t blame him for being frustrated. Secondly, what kind of message does it send to the team when the coaching staff is willing to give Stephenson twenty minutes of ice time every night? Other players have been benched for far less than Stephenson’s figure skating in the defensive zone. Surely every player has seen his lack of effort when they pass to him, or that his lines are a black hole of effort? This doesn’t set up a healthy locker room wherein players can have tough but constructive conversations about attitude and effort. It reinforces keeping your mouth shut because nothing you can say will affect the outcome. Stephenson will continue to get minutes. Resentment builds because the scales are no longer balanced. I say all this because, love or hate Daniel Sprong, I think his decision to go to the media indicates something many of us have known for a while. Some players are getting preferential treatment. You touched on independent media struggling to get an accurate read of the team because information is filtered through official channels. Have you noticed that nearly every KHN broadcast covers Stephenson? Raves about his assists? That even his minor plays get a glow-up? Eddie is my favorite commentator because he is a fan and gets frustrated with the team like we all do. He has criticized nearly every player on the roster this season but Stephenson. In fact, he affectionately calls him, “Stevie.” We have to know, especially given all the drama around JT Miller and the Canucks, that there are some Kraken players with lingering or building resentment towards other players on the team. The public doesn’t need to know the drama exists if the clubhouse can handle it internally. But in its current state, I’m not convinced this team has the type of leadership that can dish out Olczyk fact bombs. That goes for players and coaches alike. So, while I don’t think a leader tells his teammates that he’s better than them and they all stink. I do think a leader tells his mates that they’re not playing their best game right now and they need to get their house in order. Sprong is only wrong for not knowing the difference.

If you look on Natural Stat Trick, the Kraken forward that worked best with Stephenson was, crazily enough, Spring. It was something like 30 minutes of ice time at even strength. Stephenson is a disaster with every other forward other than Sprong. Strange.

I don't think an autopilot GM could get Kaapo Kakko for Will Borgen. Just because we can see the players that will likely get moved out doesn't mean that an auto-GM could find the right assets to come back. I'm still a believer in GMRF.

There is a stereotype that Dutch people are just brutally honest. So I wonder, being that Sprong is Dutch, if he doesn't mean the things he's saying as harshly as they sound. He has been in the league long enough, and moved around through 6 teams, that he should know better at this point though.

That Kaapo trade alone has made this a successful year, despite losing my boy Bill 😫 We now have 3 top 4 draft picks, all under 25 years old. Our prospect pool is so good right now. Eduard Sale was a huge standout in this year's world junior championship captaining Chechia to bronze (6 goals and 2 assists in 7 games) There is still lots to look forward to!

The game film from yesterday? Just burn it. Nothing good can come from it. If it is a talent issue with this team? You gotta start with the people that evaluate and sign the talent. It’s going to take a big to reset this team. In the meantime? Let’s get Kakko, Wright and Beniers as much ice time as possible. I think this could make a good nucleus. But they need to play more. Btw guys? Seattle sports fans are used to embarrassment. I’ve lived here my whole life. Both my parents. All of my grandparents and great grandparents are from here. My sports watching started before the mariners or Seahawks existed. As for the Soups? If they ever come back? I won’t. The NBA and I got a divorce. I’m married to the nhl now. In Bylsma’s defense? How much input did he get on free agency? He brought a new style and strategy. He needs time I think. Either he needs to change his strategy to fit his talent base. If they need to bring in the style player that would excel in his system. You gotta dance with the one that brung ya.

You literally keep getting better and better. What a great convo about this. Sorry as this might be a smidge long but as the kids sayor someone says there is alot to unpack here. this is all so weird because in the past, Ron Francis was the person who was always trying to be Mr. cautious and said we are trying to build. yet this off-season that didn’t seem like the way the organization went so was it him or was it somebody telling him he had to do that? because if you think about it from a business standpoint, if the ratings haven’t been good and they’ve been having some issues they wanna win now I mean, I know I’ve probably said this watching you guys way too much but I still believe that the worst thing ever that ever happened to this team was that second year it gave them unrealistic expectations when they just weren’t gonna keep happening . You can talk about people not executing but I’m telling you it’s a talent issue I really believe it’s that simple. They play good against really bad teams. They don’t play good against good teams or teams that are hot. In my experience that’s a talent issue. It could also be something between the ears, but you’ve got two coaches now that you’re getting the same results so I really believe it’s talent. so I mean at the end of the day, I don’t know where they go from here. 😅the roster Construction is just horrid so again there’s not an easy fix just isn’t so I don’t know. you guys are just too great. I feel bad for you because I know you guys love doing this but my gosh, you’ve got like probably one almost 40 more games and it really is in the words of my great late father. It’s a broken record. you could almost play the post game like Groundhog Day and basically it would fit because that’s what this team does. It’s bizarre but it’s not anyways great work and thanks for all you do.

Totally agree talent wise, we made the playoffs with a career year from nearly the entire roster. 3/4 years we are literally drafting top 5. It's just simply not good enough. Is there good players? Yes, a handful. Truly great players that can will a team to victory? No, and you need that in the NHL. Nearly every team has 1 bonefide STUD, someone the other team has to gameplan against. If youre the opposing team, who on this roster scares you? probably no one.

Hey there. Detroit fan here. I stopped to go get in my leg day after you said “they’re getting the message”. You gotta ask… are they? I said this about Detroit before the coaching change. There’s too much talent on this roster to be this bad. And since the coaching change, no change to the roster. Just a change in the message. Maybe… there’s a lot of talent in Seattle. Maybe a change in coaching? It does wonders.

This team is so hard to watch. Everything they do just seems like one step forward, two steps back. I guess the one bright spot is the drafting, we can always hold hope for the future but the coaching picks, trades and free agents have not worked out, but 4 seasons in and we are already talking about cap restraints? RF sold this to us as a slow burn, that he was going to build this thing up slowly and surely and be smart with the cap.. what an absolute dumpster.
@KRAKENKRYPTED
@KRAKENKRYPTED 6 күн бұрын
The problem is that management put pressure on RF to get back to the playoffs which meant signing free agents. The Stephenson deal is terrible, but I doubt RF makes this move if ownership let's him build the way he wants to - slowly. Sadly, we can't fire ownership so RF will get the blame for pushing the issue.
