A great Leo Kottke audio. Followed him since ‘73. Have just about everything he’s ever recorded. Just saw him in an April concert in Austin, Tx. No one plays like him. Extraordinary

Loretta - you've been a fan even longer than me! I wish that I had seen him in the early '70's. Yes, this is one of the best shows I have of Leo. Thanks for commenting.

Saw him back in the late '60s as the warm-up act for Linda Ronstadt! Immediately went out and bought 6, yes six, of his 8-track tapes. Showing my age. I had never heard a 12-string guitar, and this was mind-blowing!

Excellent. This is probably the best Kottke live recording. He's at the height of his powers here. Absolute dream set list for the guitar players. Never skip the annual November Kottke show in Minneapolis. This show was 14 years before my first but I haven't missed one since.

WOW Ron ... nice to know that! I've posted quite a few photos that I took of him at different shows on the Leo Kottke groups / sites on facebook.

By the way Ron, this show is one of my top favorites as far as sound quality and his playing expertise.

@@rjcjacobs Yes ... I know of Theo. Small world, I guess.

Since 1971, this man has taken my breath away with his journeys with an acoustic, and thoroughly entertained with his stories. No one matches the combination of skill and unique travels his music can take.

This recording is also tremendously valuable just for the intros - to "Tell Me Why" for instance.

Kottke seemed to inject energy into his playing which was missing from previous sedate folk treatments of the same material. Going to see Leo Kottke play was exciting, a real event.

This really was one of the great periods in his career; My Father's Face, one of his best, was released and he was playing as much 12 as 6 string. His playing was just flawless, his voice was at its peak, his guitars and amplification sounded great, and his set including great tunes new and old. Is this the same set filmed for 'Home & Away'?
@andrewjurman32563 жыл бұрын
Can't be sure, but Home & Away was initially released in 1988, and this show was from 1989. Side note here ... this is one of, if not the longest show I'm aware of at nearly 2 hours in length.

I'm half way through this, the sound quality is extraordinary, the playing is exemplary, but the mood is dark. Never thought of Leo as being a depressive but this concert will really bring you down. Hoping the second hour is his usual uplifting show. By the way, as sad as it is, this version of 'Louise' will about kill you - it's the best I've ever heard Leo sing, the playing is heartwrenchingly brilliant, but too sad...
@lastonestanding34173 жыл бұрын
Guess Mr. Kottke is a regular human being who isn't necessarily eternally optimistic. "Usual uplifting show...." don't you just with you were a public performer laboring under the expectations of each individual who make up the audience.

I played the trombone, but my principle instrument was the euphonium, which is just a small tuba. What was I thinking?
@VinceHiggins-OTW8 ай бұрын
I liked the tuba best of all, but those things were expensive. The price of brass. I bought a euphonium. Again, what was I thinking.
@VinceHiggins-OTW8 ай бұрын
In my case I was given the tuba because of cultural stereotyping. "Give the tuba to the fat kid."
