the fact jason didn't get the lights in the shot on the hubba session is pretty impressive, especially being that close!

U talk about skaters getting greedy. Here's my story. In 2004, I had already been skating 16 or 17 years. After going to university, partying a bit too much etc I was having a revival or second wind. I was skating as good as I had been in late 90s and I wasn't bad back in 90s lol. Anyway I always had good launch ramps. A kicker that u could get height off, but also distance. I was pushing at it real hard having a good session so far. On second go I land a back 360 sweet as. Obviously stoked and buzzing on how good it felt, I had to give it another go. Pretty much full speed I spin but the board and feet only lands 270 but my top half is 360. I land at just the right angle, and leaning back slightly, I just land stopped dead, all twisted. There was a loud crack like a board cracking and I hit the floor. I knew I had done something but even though hospitals are free here in uk, it was Friday evening and it would be full of drunk idiots from fighting, accidents etc. I opted to see how it goes, and go in morning. I never made it to hospital and never fully recovered. It had become impossible to skate and I clichéd into the drink and drugs route. The next few years is another story, but some years later after one doctor lied about the scan and told me there was nothing wrong, I had a later scan, suffering from same debilitating symptoms, they told me I had destroyed 3 discs. The rest weren't great either. One had disappeared and 2 had half disappeared, which would bulge into spinal nerves like a stun gun. I've been told it's such extensive damage it would be multiple risky surgeries. I had just had kids so put it on hold. The point of my rambling is just to say if u are skating, then u are an athlete so need to treat yourself as an athlete. Particularly these days with standards being so high. I have a feeling if I had looked after myself better, did strengthening and physio, then maybe I would have crumbled like a biscuit. It was like worst nightmare, and eventually after having to pretend skating didn't exist for over 10 years I was able to watch stuff again. If u are deep in the grip of skating u will probably want to skate up to your 40s and beyond. Look after yourselves, and treat your body with respect and as we see now which who knew was possible in 90s , u can skate for a long time. I would give my left nut to skate again and I'm nearly 50.
