Hey Leo. I wish I could message you directly to ask you this, but I don’t think I can. I’m starting to try and record covers. I have a Scarlett 2i2 and a couple built-in webcams and my phone…could you point me to a source to show me how you manage to record your audio/video together, or how to record the sound from your amp without a mic? I know that’s a lot to ask, that’s why I’m hoping there’s a video to point me to or something. My whole rig is physical…spent lockdown building a pedalboard and adjusting amps and whatnot to get the sound I wanted, not thinking about how I was ultimately going to record it. It seems like everyone is saying to just go direct and add in digital effects and IR cabs, but that feels like such a slap in the face to what Ive been building. Is there any easy way to record direct from your amp? If it’s too much to ask, I completely understand. I’ll always appreciate everything you’ve done for me and for the bass community as a whole. Thank you forever and always Leo!
@LeoBassCovers22 жыл бұрын
No problem man! But it seems like I can't really help in this case.. I have never even looked at videos about physical rigs, let alone tried it out with my own little shitty bass amp. I guess you really have to just mic an amp and do many trial and error sessions. That's all I can really say.. sorry

Hey Leo. In your opinion what would be Newstead's best work with Metallica? Whatever that is would you consider covering it? We all love the Cliff stuff. It speaks for itself. But I am curious what someone with your talents thinks would be Jason's best work with them. I feel like he was told to just basically follow the rhythm guitar. Curious what you think...
@LeoBassCovers22 жыл бұрын
I would've loved to answer this properly, but I literally only know like 5 Metallica songs.. Judging from this song, I would definitely agree that Jason just followed the guitar parts apart from the occasional variation. That's all I can really say.. sorry!
@lillianbrown60052 жыл бұрын
@@LeoBassCovers2 Understood! The tone on this is killer. So full and powerful, chunky goodness. Can you generally speak to the tone settings? I did read the bit that "No one will read" lol. You go directly into a computer right?
@LeoBassCovers22 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah it's all digital so the bass goes into my audio interface and then into a DAW. I used Parallax to build this tone which is why it sounds quite good. Parallax is just really amazing. Anyway, I think I actually recorded this with my 4 string jazz bass which is why it sounds a bit more chunky. To get that extra punchiness
@lillianbrown60052 жыл бұрын
@@LeoBassCovers2 Great. Now I have to go and get a Jazz bass to add to the Rick, Ray and the P ha ha I do have MACs but I play 100% through a Traynor tube amp. I can't get close to that tone though. Such a great song. Metallica has always made excellent instrumentals, and I wish that they'd make more. This entire album is fantastic, but is held back by some of the worst production that I've heard on a metal album. The thin guitars, tinny drums, and buried bass really work against the songs. I mean, just listening to your cover proves how much more powerful the song is with prominent bass in the mix. Sadly, Jason Newsted had some great bass work on this album that were all but erased from the final product. Would love to see you cover more songs from this album!
