My Golden will steal food in a nanosecond but will help you look for it.

I learned from my last 2 dogs and they weren’t puppies when they came into the house. What you do right away to avoid a food thief. If you had anything else besides their regular food meals and they wanted some. Begging and staring wasn’t acceptable either. I taught them to ask by giving their paw. You’d be surprised how really fast they catch on to that. I would hardly, hardly ever deny them if they asked for something. If I happened to be eating something like jerky which of course every dog loves. All I had to do was look at them when they came over close and I got the paw. They were both really good and I never had food taken if you walked off and it was left sitting on a plate.
