This is my first year as ESL teacher for the early childhood class and to be honest I didn't know what to do neither where to start with my lessons plan. I couldn't see myself wrapping my head around preparations and notes until I bumped into this heavenly video. You guys are great, I'm sold. New member uploading...

Hello. I'm a first time filipina tutor/nanny in Russia and I just subscribed to your website. It's really challenging for me to teach english to a 3 year old child who has zero knowledge in the English language , and I myself can't speak Russian. Can you give me some tips on how to start and how to get the kid's attention ?
@ESLKidStuff-videosАй бұрын
It's always scary and difficult when you start teaching the little ones!!! Don't worry that you don't speak their language - this is actually great for them as they will learn English much faster and they won't care that you are speaking a difference at their age. You'll be amazed at how quickly they pick up the songs words and phrases that you use with them. Basically, they want to have fun, so make the lessons as fun and engaging as possible. Sing lots of songs, play games and create a fun environment. At their age, you cannot "teach" them. They will learn through play and joining in. Try and enjoy the lessons as well - if you are enjoying it, this will rub off on them. Good luck!

Hello hello. Thank you for your advice. Much of it will be helpful. My son has volunteered me, to teach English a couple of days a week at my granddaughter's daycare. We are in Vietnam, and I am yet to learn much of the language. The cultural differences will be difficult to get around. Like, a teacher can't sit down when teaching a lesson. Also, they have very few hand gestures. So far I have only seen no and hi. these 2 gestures are not the usual ones. Hi is the shoo gesture and no is like the prom queen hi, in fast motion. I have often tried to use simple hand gestures to help communicate and only get confused looks back. Wish me luck.

Hello! Thanks a lot from a new member of yours! Could you please give me some advice about teaching this course to the kids who already know some words like colors and animals for example? And how do I define their level? Should I just skip some lessons then or go with the plan just adding some complications to the lessons?
@ESLKidStuff-videos4 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for joining up!! It depends how advanced your students are really. If they are obviously too advanced for the level, it may be worth moving ahead to later lessons. However, at this age I would think they will still enjoy covering these topics even if they know some of the vocab. Don't forget, if you are using only English at all times, they will be learning much more than your target vocab - they will pick up a lot from your classroom metalanguage, the songs, games, readers and so on. You can also throw in some extra vocab and structures to give them something new to learn. I'm sure they will still get a lot of your lessons. Good luck!

Love your video very much. Just started at nursery for non speaking students ages. 3,4. Can you give me some tips as how can I engage my students to learn new language? sometimes I feel that I am loosing control on them😬😢. Shall I speak there language too to enable them to understand me more? Any advice from will be very helpful. Thank you
@ESLKidStuff-videos5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! No, do not use their first language in class. As soon as you do they will know you speak their language and not focus on you when you are speaking in English. They learn so quickly from you, not just what you are teaching but also from all the metalanguage you use. Play lots of fun games and activities using English - at that age you cannot "teach" in the school sense, you "play" with your students and they pick up English as they go. Keep trying and you'll be amazed how quickly they pick things up. Good luck!

Thank you for your message! Although made primarily for classroom teaching, many teachers use our powerpoint lessons for online classes. They work well for online lessons as you can share your screen and show the slides as you teach, and the slides include the songs, videos and interactive games.
