I can’t help but wonder why are Americans coaching all these foreign swimmers-giving them the benefits of coaching knowledge so they can go out and beat us-while taking scholarships from American swimmers? Foreigners on NCAA D1 rosters in swimming account for more than a third of all scholarships given I like that the NCAAs is one of the fastest meets in the world- and that we allow international swimmers- but there oughta be a limit- because it’s displacing American swimmers who would otherwise get scholarships Allow colleges to reserve 1 foreign scholarship per team Because collegiate swimming is how we develop our Olympian and international swimmers- there are plenty of late bloomers that are potentially missing out on college scholarships and the chance to develop bc college programs have given out those scholarships to foreign swimmers who already have the chance to train with their national team Now with certain nations it makes sense- they simply don’t have developed swim teams or the scaffolding to go on within their own nation- a lot of eastern Asian swimmers are like this and it’s understandable But the majority of these swimmers have another outlet. Particularly the French who have a very good national program. Yet they chose the NCAA for the free education and the chance to train using American techniques. We’re paying them in a very literal sense to benefit from our education and to benefit from our breadth of knowledge in swimming- which is among the best if not the best And if you’re an American and you want to go train in Hungary, Romania or Russia, you think that’s going to be allowed? I’m all for the exchange of knowledge- so long as it’s mutual- I trained in Australia- and they were very open about all their training methods- but there are plenty of places where we’re not allowed to go as American swimmers and benefit from the training techniques other nations have developed. Much less get paid to do so.

In France, the organization of swimming is very different but absolutely open to all high sports potential from all over the world through its swimming clubs which do not represent a university or a state but a city. The Léon club for example (Toulouse) welcomes and recruits foreign student swimmers who are supported (housing, studies (University of Toulouse), means of subsistence) within the framework of a European exchange program "ERASMUS" open to almost all countries in the rest of the world, including the United States, a signatory to this partnership. This program includes many cultural and sporting components and is perfectly open to American students (athletes or not) who wish to study in Europe, while pursuing a particular activity (sports, artistic, professional) at a high level, and for this benefit from practical help (housing) and financial help (scholarship).

@@maellestanvideos6750 then that’s a fair exchange- although I don’t know of any American swimmers receiving scholarships in this fashion A one to one exchange seems reasonable And I’d say this is the exception rather than the rule

You make a lot of great points but isn't the best competition is what we want to see? I love seeing these guys convert meters into yards. Americans just have to start training harder I guess and I was an American swimmer
