Beautiful! I loved Leon since I saw him on SNL in 1975. Saw him live, with Tom Waits, about a year later.

Joe, I greatly appreciate your presentations and thank you for sharing them so freely. In case nobody else mentioned this, Leon Redbone didn't write this song. The lyric is by Sidney Clare and the music by Sam H. Stept, probably completed in the latter 1920's. Redbone recorded a memorable version on his album "Champagne Charlie", but this is also covered by literally dozens of other notable musicians/singers over the years. A great song is a great song. Crediting the proper composers is not just a courtesy; it's as important as it gets.

Nice lesson , worth noting that Leon played the tune in his live 1977 solo performance with his guitar tuned down one whole step, it gives the song a completely different ambience..

Thanks Joe, I was looking for a simple guitar version so I could embellish it a little with mouth/lips trombone and whistling (Leon style 🙂). Harvest moon would be interesting if you haven't already done it! (sorry, new here so still have to explore your wonderful site. Thanks again

So lovely! Great version. How do you go about remembering what frets the higher chord voicings are on? Any tips? I've always been pretty married to first position but I'm looking to explore up the neck and this is a great song for that! Thank you!

Great song Joe. I remember this from one of your live streams about 2 weeks ago. Speaking which is there a schedule of those? I'd like to know. Thanks again Pete
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons5 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, thanks for taking the time to comment good to hear from you. Unfortunately I don’t have any plans for any live broadcasts in the near future, all my time is going into my patreon page, doing tabs etc as well as private lessons and playing live, doesn’t leave me a whole lot of time for much else. So when i do live broadcasts it’s a spare of the moment thing. All the best.

Hi Joe. Great lesson yet again - thank you. Can you please tell me: When you're this good at playing the guitar or a certain song (you are great at both - as well as being a great teacher), is it easier to learn new songs/riffs because you are a good guitarist, or do you have to practice and learn new things just as much as a beginner would? In other words, does it become easier and quicker to learn new songs the better you get, or do you just get 'better' because you've learned more things?
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons5 жыл бұрын
Yeh, good question, things get easier & quicker, the more you play. I never had all these videos people have nowadays to learn from, so as a result, I developed my ears, which means I can figure things out by ear, if you want to develop that skill try spending some time trying to work things out by listening to songs you like.

What’s with the Yamaha? Sounds great. I have a 1983 FG200 I picked up at GC a year ago for $140. I had to reset tuners, new nut & saddle, but it booms like a cannon. Great guitar.
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons5 жыл бұрын
Yep, they make some very nice guitars. A number of friends have the old FG models, they play real nice.
