Leon Russell. THE man. THE greatest rocker. The Beatles, the Stones, Elton John and all the rest of them may have more fame and money but no-one, NO-ONE, has Leon Russell's sound, soul and power. And he's still here...go see him folks. He deserves your ears...and your hearts.

Leon can make a nursery rime sound wonderful. He puts his heart into everything that comes out of his mageouth and soul! You can hear in his music how the breaking up if his first marriage hurt him to the core! I don't think he ever really got over that! From what I have heard people say that knew him well he loved his babies! I hope they carry on with his music.

It was love at 1st sight & sound when I was lucky enough to be taken to his concert in 1970 or 71 LaCrosse Wisconsin. All I was told when asking about him was "You'll love him"😀💜 & still forever in love with that lovely man dressed all in white with top hat & long flowing hair & beard. He spoke so lovingly, seemingly right to me as I gazed into his stunning eyes from my center, 2nd row seat. I had a chance for 1st row, but so shy, I chose 2nd row.

I love Leon and have since I saw him for the 1st time during the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, 1970. Loved his music, his persona, his raspy, unique voice, everything. He was so great to see live, very entertaining, high energy and you couldn't take your eyes off of him. He sure lived an interesting life, knew so many people and had the respect of all the musicians. His music is for the ages.

Love Leon Russell's art! A great musician and session player who relied more on his imagination that he did charts. Some of my favorite pop rock records had Leon working as a contributor. He was a member of the Wreaking Crew. Killer!!!

Judy Johnson, so glad you liked it! And, for certain, Leon was an outlandish dresser during his heydey! Certainly not afraid to rock out in that lace-sleeved shirt with flowers on his hat...but, I have a feeling it was his way of putting on a stage persona to help him be the showman...he has said in several interviews & articles that he still has stage-fright...so, until & if he ever decides to write an autobiography we won't really know for sure! What a book that could be!!!

I recently got this cd, Live at the Fillmore and it is awesome. I think I mixed it up with the bootleg, live at Anaheim (both shows were with Elton John) and the sound on that is not very good at all. So, I hesitated to get this but am so glad I did. I loved the Shelter people with him and the songs on this cd are some of my favorite ones of his Forever missed, what a talent he was.

You are so lucky, Crystal, to have access to these photos and the sound! Thanks very much for sharing. I saw Leon in Hawaii a few months ago and was appreciating him wearing an Aloha shirt. I see he has been sporting them for years. But it looks like this may have been the first of them... just took out the sleeves, put in some lace, added the floral cuffs. Wonder whose design this was? You just gotta love a man who can carry off lace AND flowers in his hat.
@TNPassiflora10 жыл бұрын
fellowswimmer, so glad you enjoyed the video & the recent show in Hawaii...I get to see him here in TN again in a week or so! As far as the Aloha shirts, he has worn one every time I have seen him live since 2008 (6 times)...in this case, it looks to me like the lace shirt is actually underneath the Aloha shirt, which is more like a vest (doesn't seem to be attached)...I have read or heard somewhere (no idea where) that Leon said that in the early days he'd shop in a vintage store/boutique in Los Angeles for his clothes...looking for clothes that were a bit outlandish to wear on stage...I believe it helped him take on a stage persona to help overcome shyness/stage fright. He is reportedly actually quite shy.

Crystal Longdon Enjoy your upcoming show, oh man, what a gift! Nashville is Leon's home base for years now, is that right? I wonder if he is appreciated there and sells out. He is probably a man who is the exception to that prophet in your own country thing... About that shirt that has captured me so, I think you are right the lace is a shirt underneath, and did you check out the cuffs, which look like the same fabric as the front of the shirt/vest, and how the back is made of a different print? What I love about this outfit, is that is was clearly custom made with love for someone. If not for Leon, who may very well have found it in a shop, then for someone else. Wish we could ask him! It reminds me of things we used to sew, back in the day, tops with yokes and sleeves made from old crochet pieces found in thrift stores. I once sewed a two tone, satin cowboy shirt with pearl snaps for an old boyfriend and remember the love that went into it. And yes, can believe it about the shyness and have read him talk about stage fright. Thank God he didn't give into that.
@TNPassiflora10 жыл бұрын
fellowswimmer You are right, he lives somewhere outside Nashville now...has for years. I have seen him twice at small clubs in Nashville, that were full of folks loving Leon, but I don't really get the idea that Nashville (or anybody else other than us loyal fans and Elton John) really appreciates him like they should! I am a member of a group of folks called "LeonLifers," which is a group of like-minded folks that love Leon...you can read about them on his www.leonrussellrecords.com webpage. We have become like a familyover the years....
