How I love this! Jose and Kiri sing this so well together. I love her little looks of encouragement around 01:46. She is such a sweet character. The charisma of these two is what makes this. Leni's admiration of the performance also helps. Two great great singers.

Every once in a while there is a special moment in music - one that can not be topped by another. Whether it is Itazak Perlman playing the theme to Schindler's List or Beverly Sills singing "Vilia". Here is the most tender version of "One Hand, One Heart" from the studio recording with Leonard Bernstein the composer and conductor leaving us a musical moment. The choice of opera singers was criticized by some, but hearing Jose Carreras and Kiri te Kanawa sing this duet is an exception. A gem of a performance.

One Hand, One Heart was never intended to be in this show. This was written for Candide, but some "crosspolinations" took place due to the fact that they were being written at the same heart. What a genius to make it work on so many levels of intellect

This take represents a pinnacle. Have been watching it for several years, and it never fails to give me gooseflesh. Carreras was a perfect match for Kiri; his voice is beautiful but not overpowering, which is a good thing for this kind of song. For example, Placido Domingo would have been a horrible choice for this. In fact, Kiri overpowers Carreras slightly in several spots, so the mixer might have brought out Carreras' voice a little more in those few spots. But i'm nit-picking. It's as close to perfection as a duet has ever been, to my ear.
@harmoniabalanza Жыл бұрын
that's a duet that has to really match dynamics-wise.

I’ve seen Maestro and the pride Bernstein takes in West Side Story’s songs. He talked as if they were all his work. Could anyone forget lyrics like Maria, say it soft and it’s almost like praying or all the lyrics of I Want to Live in America. They are the genius of Steven Sondheim. Bernstein’s narcicism shows in the movie. He conducted a lot of classical music anyone could have. But he abused his wife Felicia by his infidelity with men and women, as if to prove to the public he was bisexual. This was his alone.
