I agree in the sense that it's probably even harder in a way for Marc to make his own stamp because he does naturally just sound a hell of a lot like Freddie Mercury, even when he's not putting on an imitation. It's a double-edged sword, in a way the fact that he sang for Queen kinda hurts his ability to stand out, even though it's what put his name out there. He still needs original hit songs of his own to truly set himself apart as his own unique artist, but he is an absolutely beautiful singer, no doubt, Marc is the real deal.

I cried, I wont lie. Everyone has done a cover of this song since Cohen died, I have heard several beautiful ones from both before and after his death. One of my all time favorites is K.D. Lang's version from the opening ceremonies of the 2010 winter Olympics. Her version was backed with the pomp and circumstance of the games and the excitement of the live crowd and it had a certain magic. But this version is a solo in a studio with just a man, a mic, and a guitar and it simply blows me away. Thank you Mr. Martel and bless you for sharing your voice.

Checkout Marc's solo album, Impersonator, especially the song, "High Hopes (The Remake)." Marc is influenced by Buckley, Mercury, Vedder, Michael and Jordan Knight. And listen to his cover of "I Will Always Love You" it is what Buckley would have sounded like.

Thank you for being you, and sharing it with a world that so desperately needs you.
@artfulstories3 жыл бұрын
He is a good writer too! Here he writes of why he choose this song for his 90s cover series: "Why "Hallelujah"? Ok, so I'm cheating a little this week. This is a cover of a cover. But this particular cover was so different from the original that it was a kind of rebirth for the song. You could make a case that it was Jeff Buckley who made this song a classic, and not its original composer. And that's a beautiful thing about the art of music. Once it's released, it can take on infinite forms - stripped down, rocked out, turned on its head, sung in a different language or time signature, or even *cringe* remixed for the club! Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" has been covered so many times, it's almost embarrassing to add another one to the pile. But it was made new in 1994, and this is a '90s covers series. So that's my excuse! Although Cohen recorded it in 1984, I didn't hear "Hallelujah" until quite some time later. And despite the sheer smorgasbord of versions, it was Cohen's original recording that I somehow managed to hear first. It was in the end credits of some movie, if I'm not mistaken, and the lyric grabbed me. I was hooked even before the first chorus. Verse one recalls the biblical account of David, in his innocent exuberance, playing music for the Lord. Then with the second line, Cohen brilliantly deconstructs the mystery of music by referencing the Nashville Number System, a shorthand used by musicians for charting out songs. To my wife's dismay, who is an avid music listener, I completely relate to how familiarity with music's mechanics can sort of harden your heart toward it. It's like anything. When you know something like the back of your own hand, you have to keep working at finding the beauty in it, or face the devastating effects of disillusionment. I'm no poetry buff, but this sentiment seems to be the crux of the song, as it pertains to romantic love. It was a different David - my brother - who introduced me to Jeff Buckley's music. Since then, Buckley, who died tragically in 1997, has become one of my biggest musical influences. His album, "Grace," unlocked a whole new world of vocal exploration for me. It showed me just how little I really knew about singing, and how far I could hope to take it. The creativity, purity and elasticity Buckley demonstrated were something I'd never really fathomed. The way he wasn't afraid to sound downright feminine in an industry dominated at the time by gruff, baritone singers. His ability to project power and delicacy all in the same breath. If you appreciate serious vocal chops, I highly recommend "Grace." It's one of my all-time favorites. It's guitar rock, with an extra dose of sophistication. My favorite song on the album is actually an original called "Last Goodbye." But for the sake of familiarity (the good kind), here's my cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," in the style of Jeff Buckley, who improved on a masterpiece, IMHO. P.S. Here's a fun article I found ranking SIXTY different versions of "Hallelujah": www.newsweek.com/60-versions-leonard-cohens-hallelujah-ranked-303580 m.facebook.com/283556381655697/photos/a.417293538281980/1049461711731823/?type=3 "
