Yes Leonard was a great bard and writer, and so was Mr. Dylan. Don't compare, contrast instead.

It's just too bad the words aren't available anywhere. I have a problem hearing words but the melody is great and his voice always is soothing.

how people change over the years! Leonard cohen Young is so different from wise old Leonard Cohen. I don't know which one I like more. they are such different people. perhaps the young Cohen is my favorite, complicated, full of problems, insecurities. However, his songs about him, young or not young, are beautiful, he has made me companions FOR many years and I would have liked to know him when he was a beautiful boy who often said: Me, Me, Me,

I have posted this beautiful song to our site LEONARD COHEN. I am so proud that Leonard sang it, and I love it. I’m an Irish Catholic, not that this should matter. The man is a legend and part of my psyche 🎸❤️🎸❤️🎸🇮🇪🇨🇦🇮🇱

When i look upon the internet, & see how much that anti-semitism (this spell check does not even acknowledge it as a word) has gained fresh roots worldwide, the casual omission of this song from the common body of Mr Cohen's music does not surprise me. I am a Mormon, my mother is Roman Catholic, but she instantly recognized what this song was about & explained it to me as best she could. Never forget the Holocaust, & never let it happen again! Some people want genocide of anyone they dislike.

Thank you. Holocaust Remembrance Day is now a part of Judaism. The day commemorating the victims of the Holocaust is Yom Hashoah. It is marked on the 27th day in the month of Nisan, which usually falls during April.

Brother, i miss it too! I am not exaggerating if i say that some times i weep when i listen to this music because once Leonard Cohen passes, there will be a gap in dialogue that i don't see any one else filling. Mr Cohen grew up with the imagery of both Testaments of the Bible, & they fill his poetry even beyond a conscience level i think. I grew up reading the Bible, & i will miss the passing of that imagery from our conversations. When did i get so old?

Goblintrain we are weeping and missing you already
I remember the promise That you made in the barn When the kittens were born And you could not keep warm So you moved away the mountain That the sun rose behind And you said yourself a prayer And laid down with the blind But you lost them in your freedom And you need him now, you're wild Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child And the vow of compassion That you swore through your teeth When the war began to end And the photographs weep Well, nobody blames you As the train pulls away With its cargo of snow For these German paper-weights But you lost them in your freedom And you need him now, you're wild Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child Well, its five in the morning There's no one home Except for your wife And your child on the phone Somebody's got to listen To a promise or two Oh, this room is far too small For a pilgrim like you But you lost them in your freedom And you need him now, you're wild Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child So, now that you've decided To follow the sun Like a shadow of birds Or a King on the run Oh, your chains are too dark For the seas you must swim You're smiling at the seaweed But your smile is too grim But you lost them in your freedom And you need him now, you're wild Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child Blessed is the memory Of everybody's child

Does someone know the meaning behind this song? I read many things but cant seem to find a definite answer. I'm aware that meaning is a thing we choose to give also, but this one puzzles me so much and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite Cohen songs, so I'm deadly curious.

Does anyone know the source of this recording? I have (I believe) all of his released studio albums, but have never heard this one. Nice.
