I loved the way he stayed cool in the face of adversity when all around him were loosing there heads, especially the Doctor who hardly ever missed the opportunity to insult him. Star Wars fan here. I've never been a Star Trek fan myself. I'm not a hater, (to each his own) I just prefer the "Rock and Roll of Star Wars to Star Trek's more "Classical" approach. That being said, I absolutely LOVE Leonard Nimoy. I have nothing but respect for that man. Despite not being a fan of the series, I found his character 'Spock' quite fascinating and the main reason I watched so many episodes with my best friend who was (and obviously still is) a Trekkie. 🖖 Live long and prosper Mr. Nimoy, wherever you are. That slip and stutter in The Wrath of Kahn is a great example of Shatner's underrated acting ability; He couldn't have played it any better, showing a grieving Kirk who is fighting, as Admiral, to keep composed. Great scene.

Shatner's acting ability is indeed much underrated. He can say anything with his face alone -- in Spock's death scene, his childlike expression of helplessness and despair is the emotional heart of it. William Shatner was a member of the National Repertory Theatre in Ottawa. He acted in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. He was Christopher Plummer's understudy in Henry V on Broadway. He is a superb actor. Accounts of the making of Star Trek mention the fact that Shatner's classical training made it easy for him to try out alternate readings of the same line.

Look up Walter Koenig's defense of Shatner's acting ability - I found it quite moving. Something else to look up is his excellent re-do of Kirk's death on Jimmy Kimmel - he improves it very well. Finally, his reaction to his son's death in Search For Spock - chokes me up.

@@dantesinferno80 i always took his journey as being, learning who he was and how to accept his human half and the aspects of it, that are shunned by most pure vulcans, he has always had more emotion/less emotional control, then you would expect, not in a bad way but, even as a kid i took his journey being to truly discover and accept, who he was, rather then who his fathers people are, yes, he tried to reject/not accept that part of himself, not admit to it, but, that was never to me at least, actual rejection of humanity, but, rather, a sort of cognitive dissonance due to upbringing among vulkans rather then an outright rejection of those aspects of himself....coming to accept ones self, for better and worse, is part of the path to truly know yourself, figuring out why you react the way you do to specific stimuli (situations/people/ect) i duno.... spock genuinely was one of the most human characters in sci-fi, exaggerated in aspect but, ringing very true to how i see people act every day, thinking their extremist possessions are "center", that their emotional argument is logic based, and that being for example, "morally right" but Factually full of shit/liars....in the case of spock, it was simply him not wanting to admit, that, he was more emotional then your average vulkan, not in any sort of negative way but, in that, he makes deeper connections with friends then seems normal for his fathers people, part of why i like spock so much, is the fact that, you actually see him change and evolve over the years/decades, you dont see that from many such characters.....many of them dont really change much.. specially in older media... back when, studio execs thought people just wanted more of what they where use to, in different shells... having watched some documentaries about how the industry worked and works... i came to understand why so many good shows never got the real care and respect they deserved, where, othr, trash shows nobody wants to sit and re-watch, got far more support... if they got the same level of support some of the old gameshows got from the studios... but alas... also been told that trek due to how they manage and micromanage every aspect of the scripts and dialogue, to the point where they dont have even minor adlibs included....adding a word, requires going up the chain and having "well" added before "ok"... i wish i was kidding but... bill mumey (Sp?) talkes about it as do others on interviews you can pretty easily find on youtube... i wouldnt want to be stuck dealing with that on top of stupidly long day after day working to get out a season.....the stress sounds...un-fun....on the other hand...all i have ever heard about working on babylon 5, was that they had a much more fun open environment that was genuinely cool to work in..even if bill hated the foam bone prosthetic, they could tweak lines or, if something came out naturally like adding a "well" before the word "ok", it wasnt a problem, some of the case even re-wrote sizeable chunks of their own dialogue from time to time, i dont remember what episode or little speech it was where one of the guys did a speech that wasnt on script but was sort of "this will be an out take" type thing and... it worked out that when reviewing the film, they found that it could be used and, came off like it was scripted... so it got used... that sounds more like an environment i would have enjoyed being around/working in...

Tyler Parziale I got to. Meet Leonard when he came to Atlanta for a Cerebral Palsy Telethon at WTBS in the mid '70' ( I also saw him in "Vincent" then). He was nice to sisn his books-no charge like at the conventions-and we talked about the Jewish benediction. I also saw his book about the Shekina (sorry about the spelling) at the Jewish Centre in Dunwoody. RIP, Leonard. I may not be Jewish, but my aunt Esther sang in a Jewish Synagogue in Savannah, Ga. and appreciate their religion, heritage and culture.

Mr. Leonard Nimoy is one of those actors I really would love to have met, had a coffee with and listened to, tell stories of his life. I think they got the perfect person to narrate In Search Of. He created such a haunting atmosphere in that show. "Live Long And Prosper"

I was never a Star Trek fan and never watched the show but Mr. Nimoy was the very first person to host Ripples Believe it or not, and he had such a captivation voice you couldn't help but watch it. Then I watched him on re-runs of Mission Impossible and even in that he was fantastic. Then it was just after the release of the third Star Trek film search for Spock and yes that one I saw, I meet him in a air port just out side of Colorado springs and I remember he came up to me and said, "you look sad is something wrong" at the time I was sixteen, I said I am waiting on my Dad he is a Sargent in the Army and he is late" , and he literally talked my ear off but the guy was so smart he would blow your mind. So he asked me if I knew who he was and I said yeah you used to be on Mission Impossible and he had this big smile and told me I was also on Star Trek. And I said something that had him laughing so hard I though he would fall out of his chair, I said "Star Track what is that some racing movie?", he started laughing at me and then I saw the move poster for Star Trek III on the side of a bus and I had this sinking feeling of stupidity roll over me. He said "Don't worry about it you made my day, what is your name since you already know mine", I said my name and my father finally got there and thanked him for keeping me company and he thanked my dad for his service to this country. The man was one of a kind and his will always be missed.

@@marioiacolucci Try Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Wonderful nuanced characters, literate scripts -- beautiful sets, makeup and costumes -- superb acting and direction. Each series lasted seven years at 26 episodes a season.

@Centurian HATED Enterprise -- watched it through once and never watched an episode a second time. It is in every way a regression and a disappointment from the first second when, instead of the beautiful, sweeping orchestral music one associates with TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, there is an absolutely ghastly, cringe-making song about aspiration over the opening credits. The three previous shows are ensemble shows with a huge variety of interesting characters. Enterprise focuses entirely on one invincible captain and one boring Vulcan. The sets are dark and dull, the costumes are drab, the scripts are boilerplate sci-fi. The thing is a prequel, so there is no sense of facing an unknown future: they are boldly going where everyone has been before. And the prequel tries to change for its own convenience principles established in previous series, so you don't know where you are anymore. All the wonderful worlds created by previous series and all the fascinating species we have come to know -- Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, Changelings, Vorta, Jem'Hadar, Bajorans, Breen, all the species Voyager met in the Delta Quadrant -- are gone; it's a wretched prequel and no one has met them yet. We never learn what happened after Voyager returned to Earth and the Dominion War ended. And the acting is awful! WIlliam Shatner and Patrick Stewart came from the Shakespearean stage. Actors like René Auberjonois, Nana Visitor, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew had years of stage experience. These people knew how to act and they knew how to be part of an ensemble. The acting in Enterprise is just wooden. Of course, Enterprise is better than JunkTrek -- better than Discovery, better than Picard, better than Strange New Worlds will be -- but JunkTrek consists of the worst television ever made. Compared to the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, Enterprise is a huge disappointment.

I had a great opportunity to meet Lenard Nimoy many years ago after a banquet I was filming for the movie industry in NYC. We hung out and talked for about 45 minutes about the tv show and movies. But what an influence and legacy he has left, a role like that is something the vast majority of actors never even come close to. He became a cultural icon, if you flash that hand sign at virtually any American, they’ll know exactly what you mean. I’m sure he never imagined during the filming of the show that he would be a beloved character for generations to come. Star Trek was already cancelled way before I was born, even as a Gen Xer, but I grew up watching the reruns, my mom took me to the movies, I still watch the original series now and then. Star Trek lives on to this day, and Leonard Nimoy is a huge reason why.

Its a shame that we could lose Leonard Nimoy anytime I hope he lives for another 20 years but that's wishful thinking. I for one am going be sad when he goes. Im kinda the tough type but I get teary eyes every time I watch him in interviews nowadays. He is just such a smart talented Wise person, anybody who has gotten a chance to talk to this man should appreciate it because they are lucky.

We all loved Spock because he was in the same struggle we had while growing up. I was a kid when the show was on TV, and Spock was fascinating. The role and the actor had met together. I miss him.

A friend of mine was at the PBS station in New York for some reason just doing mundane things in some conference. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Nimoy walks into the room. Everyone was like, OH MY GOD it's Leonard Nimoy! They look at him, wondering what priceless pearls of wisdom he will dispense. Nimoy looks at them and says, "Hey where's the bathroom here?" Brush with fame!

I remember Nimoy playing fiddler on the roof at the melody tent in the early 70's on the Cape. i was about 13. all i could say was wow. He was incredible. thank you Mr Nimoy for that memory.
