When Scotty said, "He's dead already." my heart fell to my stomach and didn't come back up to it's rightful place until I saw Star Trek III. You know, I think I just realized... I may be a trekkie...

Kahn's famous line to his future wife in the original Space Seed .."Leave me then, but I wished you could have been stronger"! Or something to that effect. Loved it...and laugh like hell to this day when I hear it. Also, all the histrionics that Ricardo goes through to open the automatic door in his cabin...great as well. Great actor. No, what it was was that until 1986, "The Cage" wasn't commercially available and so therefore there were only 78 episodes available in the syndication package and coming out on video at the time. I also noticed that they cut out a bit at the end. The bit where we go down to Genesis, see the coffin, and Nimoy talks over about the coming of Star Trek III and asks will Spock live again, saying we'd find out in the summer of 1984.

It is strange that Nimoy doesn't mention the Animated Series (1973-1974) for even though it was not considered part for the canon it was able to do things that the live action series couldn't do.

I knew ST: III was already in development at the time of this show because, according to Harve Bennett, a Paramount exec called him up and simply said, "Start working on Star Trek III." Nimoy didn't mention anything about it because he probably wasn't allowed to.

@sapphiresteddibear I fourteen right, so I'm still pretty new to Star Trek, but I still consider myself a trekkie. Since I'm new I was on youtube checking out random scenes, when on the side panel I saw something about Spock dying, I laughed it off, but clicked the video just to see. I watched the video, then my eyes started watering, my sister is like "Why are you crying?" Then when I go to explain all I get out was "He's Spock, and he's dying." Then I sobbed like a baby, I felt horrible.

Wonderful documentary. I remember seeing The Wrath of Khan at the cinema when I was 12, and at the time it really did feel that Spock had died. My brother and I had grown up with repeats of the TV series, and we loved Mr Spock. I remember that walk home from the cinema, the world seemed a much sadder place, and we were both trying not to cry. The previous year we had seen our heroes in Blake's 7 all gunned down, and even in Doctor Who, one of his companions Adric, had been killed off at the hands of the Cybermen. Science Fiction seemed quite bleak at that time. It was a great relief when the next Star Trek film was announced as being The Search for Spock! I'm so glad that I didn't see this documentary then - it really does come across as Leonard Nimoy's farewell to Star Trek, but of course he went on to star in another four movies, guest star in The Next Generation, and also in two of the newer films as well. A wonderful character portrayed by a wonderful actor!
@cavegames15 жыл бұрын
I agree with that, but of course it would also have taken a lot of courage from the studio's side. He was their most popular character, and without him the sequels probably wouldn't have done so well. It might have been more of a financial decision. However, I'm only now watching the movies, and sequentially, so I don't know yet "how" they brought him back...

@sbergman27 Vastly fasinating! I think that was a good call on their part. Having someone else deliver such a line made the moment even more grim than if Dr. McCoy (who can cure a rainy day) had said it. It added to the unpredictability of the moment.

@Choefoe And that's one of the best Columbo episodes too. Great plot with more than one twist, and Trekkies should get a kick out of the cold intellectual aptitude and arrogance of Nimoy's character. There's something familiar about it. If y'all haven't seen it, I highly recommend tracking it down. You can't go wrong with that whole series either. If you've never watched much of it, you'll be surprised at some of the actors you'll recognise - including Shatner in more than one episode.

ST: The Motion Pic, was more about how trek was supposed to look, not so much as to what it was original to be like in the TOS. But for a film made in '79, I thought it was still impressive. I still got a story out of it. But ya, the characters were a little stale, they should have stuck with the series like origianlly planned. Would have allowed room for the actors to re-explore there characters. And I think it would have sold better, more money, better FX, it is a shame it didn't happen.

I see that death scene and I think, They should have left Spock dead. Yeah, we would've never had the whale movie, but it would have been a small price to pay for one of the most powerful death scenes in movie history. As for the rest of the movies after "Kahn," no big loss. The old science-fiction resurrection bit kind of cheapened Spock's big moment, you know?
