In 1988 I managed to send a letter to Leonard Bernstein, from East Berlin through the Iron Curtain, via the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. At Christmas of the same year, I even received a reply. Unfortunately, I never managed to ever see Leonard Bernstein live at one of his concerts in the Berlin Schauspielhaus or elsewhere in Germany. - Little did we know that our world was about to change dramatically just one year later with the Fall of the Berlin Wall. But I already knew then that LB had changed my life and my understanding of music forever. 35 years later there is the same excitement, not least due to this movie which I can´t wait to see, but also by reading these comments, some coming from very young people. I feel the very same positive chill as I did as a young woman, listening to his conducting Tschaikowsky and Mahler. Lenny is and stays alive ... Thank you, LB, and all the people who made this movie.

What an incredible story! I'm from a very different background: Mexican, born in 1985, and I'm an astrophysicist and science communicator. Yet I feel a connection to your story, since Bernstein's performances have accompanied me thorough my life since I first discovered them as a teenager in western Mexico. Music truly does bring people together.

@@VitotheKenobi I should warn you, the film takes a closer look at Bernstein’s relationship with Montealegre than his career so there isn’t as much of his music as you might expect but there’s still a good deal of exciting moments. Berlin isn’t featured, but there is a snippet of West Side Story, an amazing dance number inspired by On The Town and the Mahler Resurrection Symphony is a real showstopper!

Bradley Cooper is one of my favorite actors, but I'm also a big classical music boy (I'm 19) who admires Leonard Bernstein, I can tell that Bradley really did became Lenny, extraordinary makeup, he must have taken this role very seriously, it might be the role of his career so far, we're talking about one of the best music difussers and the first great american conductor (like they say in the trailer). Also, just like Lenny, Mahler is one of my favorite composers, there have been music pieces that made me cry, but the finale of Mahler 2 is THE ONE music piece that has made me cry THE MOST like never before, that hasn't happened me with any other music or any work of art. I'm glad the official Lenny account in YT uploaded this, I will replay this trailer until the movie releases.

@@sp9459 depends on whether the old academy members can still tell the difference between meaningless show-boating with zero nuance like Cooper or someone like Cillian, who carried the weight of the entire movie with a finely calibrated performance, sometimes just acting with his eyes and drawing the audience in. Cooper's eyes contain zero expression, if you look at Bernstein's warm eyes and charisma, it is blatantly obvious that you can't just scream or sob a line and think the audience is going to be impressed or feel something.

When I was a teen in the 80's, I got to paint the servant's house on his property in Greenwich CT. I stayed the weekend with nobody there except my girlfriend who helped me, and the security guy who my father knew. (How I got the gig). The opening shot looks very much like the place. If so, the two structures were the servant's house on the right and his study cottage on the left. In that cottage, was an upright piano with an architectural draft board where he clipped his music. It also had a single sized cot in a small room - like a napping spot. Two things really struck me: 1) Above the piano on the wall was a narrow shelf with a few grammy awards... totally dusty. 2). He had a few prog-rock records from the band Yes! I never expected that. The house was another story. To this day, I think I should have kept the check with his signature. It was for $800. Probably would be worth a lot more now.
