As a novice cycle tinkerer I think finding the right way to describe the actual issue was 90% of the struggle. Once I did, your video delivered the results, I just inflated to 110% and it popped into place. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

Thanks!!! Wish I'd found this video before I spent a few frustrating hours with both tires on new wheels not seating. Was driving me bonkers. Combo of over inflate and soapy water did the trick. So satisfying to see the tire crackle and pop into place.

I have a big plump pair of 650b tyres on narrow rims and was really worried about the seating - one of the tubes was a little large for the rim so was getting bulges too. But careful work placing the tubes and then your over-inflate technique (done slowly with lots of attention on both sides) worked an absolute treat with a satisfying snap sound on both when they seated. - I could actually watch the bead creeping round the rim as it was seating itself! Thanks for the great advice - I took talc and Ecover washing up liquid down to the garage but didn't end up needing it.

thank you, the washing up liquid trick worked and after pumping it back up it made a pop and goes round and not bumpty like before after fitting a new tyre.

Could you please elaborate on the way you hit it with. Really stubborn couple here.

As an ex car/commercial/agri tire fitter, it should be possible to scrounge a couple of spoonfuls of tire mounting paste from your local tire shop. I'm sure they won't mind if it's for a bicycle. That stuff lubes the tire beads nicely, but dries off to a powder in a few days, even inside a tubeless tire. Personally I don't recommend wash-up liquid as some brands may cause early ageing of the rubber. Olive oil may work for bead seating as well.

Thought I'd buckled my wheel after a puncture (3 week old bike...) as I had a bump in my wheel. Stressed for a few days thinking how much will it be to repair my wheel and then realised tyre was't seated properly. Overinflated and all fixed within 5 minutes of googling. Thanks!!!

me just face this issue after reinflate flat tires after not ride few months. few tries with soapy water and massage, there is still about 1/3 section of tyre seat lower than the rest on one side. not really sure whether the bead is not even or the rim bead bed that is not even.

Does the dish soap ultimately dry? I’m assuming this is for a tire that has never been mounted? What happens if I flat on the road? I have to change my tube, no problem, but I don’t carry soap….

thanks i have REALLY struggled with 700x25 mm (different brands) on a set of wheels i bought. (the tires work on my first set of wheels.) i will try this tomorrow. HATE to need to take things to a bike shop ... when any person NEEDS to know how to mount their own tires. my old tubular tires are looking better and better to me lol

soapy water, and high inflation: POP sound of beading getting in. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. a fella needs to be able to change his own tires. embarrassing if i could not. been doing it since 10 years old, now 64

Talcum powder is very good it prevents the tube binding to the wheel too much easier to mount and dismount as well had issues with new continental tyres applied talcum and it was a lot easier thanks

With V brake rims and Wire or kevlar bead its easy but the real horror starts when you try to fit TLE ready tire in wider disc rim.

So what do you do on the side of the road with a puncture, if the tyre has a tendency to not seat correctly, even when blowing a whole CO2 cartridge in it?

Hiya, I tried the first method, I pumped up my tyre between 5-10 psi higher than what is stated on the tyre. Unfortunately, the tube exploded and split, causing me tinnitus for a few days, and rendered the vintage bike rim (in like new condition) to bend beyond repair. The explosion was MASSIVE and I experienced temporary hearing loss which is coming back, but Im a musician, so its not ideal. This was a very expensive and painful experiment and I seriously urge people to be very cautious with this method. 26" wheels Schwalbe Marathon MTB tyres. This did not sort out my issue as I no longer have a back wheel which is impossible to replace due to its rarity.
